Please don't drop your motor!! Flat black Rules!

In my frame......hehe. Yea I think my motor build will have to go solid flat black, it'll match my frame and will be the first i've seen. Cases and all. I'm trying to research the best way to do it without retaining too much heat.....well besides proper jetting....lol.

Re: Finally Ready For Dream Build ... Need Engine Suggestions

I don't really think that painting your motor is gonna hold THAT much more heat in, sure if it has ten coats maybe but a few coats Naw! If heat were that much of an issue with coating the cylinder with paint, i think they would of came factory bare.

Someone on here had a flat black blaster newer year, i cannot remember who!
But have only seen one.

Re: Finally Ready For Dream Build ... Need Engine Suggestions

Ok, so I ran into this problem,
http://www.blasterforum.com/engine-13/pro-design-manifold-help-plz-39955/

I ended up finding out the manifolds were made for VF2's so did not matter that I already had modded. So this was what I ended up with after porting inner cage and manifold.

So here is the inner VF3 cage after mod and port

Another note, someone offered to buy my Trenga Cover....Sorry but like the frame guards they have not made these solid billet oil-pump covers for years and regardless if I'm gonna brush it can't let that one go...ever...and I might not even brush it now that it matches manifold on engine

So I also got my correct airboot for my CFM, I had built mounts that mounted it over frame rails similar to PB but am thinking of scrapping them for a much simpler way of mounting. In re-thinking I realized that instead of using the wedge mount between frame I could use a skinnier spacer and drill one hole through the rear gusset on that side and actually mount rather than wedge. The holes are still off so I'll have to re-drill but will make mounting similar to the way intended but better as it will actually bolt on wedge side while using intended mount from oil tank. depending on how well this works I might have to still use smaller frame rail mounts on front but am going to try this first and will update pics as I do it today

hehe.....just noticed I broke 500 posts this morn......no longer a newb...

Re: Finally Ready For Dream Build ... Need Engine Suggestions

Kinda went backwards on this one, but have not drilled new mounts yet though they are marked, but keeping with the red/black theme I found sticker sets to match on both sides as the easiest way to cover stock CFM holes. On bottom I used super thick vinyl number sheet and cut a strip then sticker to make sure it was blocked I also put a small piece over hole on inside as you can see in second pic

First Pic: Intake reducer suggested by AWK, best 15 bux I've spent on my blaster, it is an immense improvement in taper, quality and seal when compared to the CFM plumbing reducer.

Re: Finally Ready For Dream Build ... Need Engine Suggestions

Well................here is some real sh*t. So you remember the swingarm YB gave Ken. It turns out my swingarm shop +3 HD swingarm has the same problem, sits to the side. Since I had not had a chain on I had my axle loosely on it. When going to bolt and adjust everything what was the result....crooked axle, my chain does not match up and after some measuring figured out the whole thing sits an inch to the right if looking from the back. How this was not noticed when I hooked up my shock I do not know, but long story short I'm fukin raging pissed and waiting to hear from these douches in my e-mail. If ever I wish I had some extra cash to just drop on a new one I would, but for now I guess I'll be waiting for them to replace this one.

Re: Finally Ready For Dream Build ... Need Engine Suggestions

So as explained the holes were off on my CFM as usual, I already plugged and covered them.

Then drilled bolt hole in rear exhaust side gasket.
Cut aluminium spacer (the CFM one was to thick to squeeze between frame rail and bolt through gusset)
Drilled matching mount hole in air-box then mounted this side

120t28p.jpg

With the other side completely secure, I was able to re-drill the hole on this side to mount where intended

2043rt.jpg

It now sits as straight as I could get it with the rear lip of the airbox just a hair lower than the rear sub-frame cross-bar and even between frame rails. I also still have plenty of clearance (1 inch when compressed) between bottom front of box and rear shock It is also rock solid with both sides torqued tight and so I think at this point I won't mess with the wrapped mount I was making.

oirtop.jpg

Better angle of how box sits - man, I have to admit even though I said I'd never sell that billet oil pump cover or polish it I might just clean it up for now and brush the shock, cover, and manifold at a later date

Blaster Oil Pump Cover [OIC-BLA] - $59.95 : TM Designworks, Online Store
TM designworks still makes a oil injection cover in solid billet.

Thank you for posting these pictures of your CFM airbox mounting. That looks PERFECT! I did it the hard way and welded custom brackets which came off the frame rails into the box, and drilled 4 holes in the box! Looking back, drinking 3 Fat tire Ales before doing that was prolly not the best idea I ever had. Yours is perfectly lined up. I drilled 4 and made 4 brackets because I ran the harness for the DT200 harness back there. It had to support the weight of the battery and all the 5 electronic control boxes. Your craftsmanship is TOP NOTCH my man. Possibly one of the best, most thought out builds I've seen on this site or any other for that matter!I:I

Thank you it is extremely appreciated, lots rush but when I decided to do this build it was less about time and more about getting sh*t right so the fact that you notice this makes it worth it........I did not know TM made those and I have been looking at their stator covers.......Yea started making brackets but the gusset provided perfect opportunity for clean mount after looking at it thoroughly. I did however have to re-drill both holes as explained as they were off even for mounting it where intended........thank you againI:I

Re: Finally Ready For Dream Build ... Need Engine Suggestions

I think everyone who's had mounting problems with a CFM should email the guy. Whoever welded the boxes does one hell of a job, but it seems the mounting location is always off. No problem man, I'm outside with the mig welder "copying" this idea if you don't mind. :D

Re: Finally Ready For Dream Build ... Need Engine Suggestions

i also had probs with it mounting...but i imagine that because the size carb, reeds, reed spacer ect vary...that could be why eveyone seems to have diffrent probs with them??...mabe they make them to fit with all stock parts, but when u add a larger carb u are moving the whole mounting point back further...who knows lol nothing a few little brackets wont fix lol

Freek that could be it. i have mine on a stock carb and it fits pretty darn good and if you move the carb back with a 1/2 inch spacer and a lil more with a bigger carb and reeds etc it will make the holes be off that much and the construction of the box will be off

Re: Finally Ready For Dream Build ... Need Engine Suggestions

Just a teaser, but I have been cutting all the decals for my fenders. I will not use a graphics kit for multiple reasons.

Edit: Not trying to offend or rant, just an opinion

First, I am not into giving free-advertising to brands who I am paying full price for their parts. The part alone gives them advertising, without branding my quad with their logos. I am not on a high-horse as explained (air-box) I have used a few stickers. For the most part though they are covered by fenders - so far only the air-box has had stickers. I come from the tuner-car state-of-mind that if you want me to advertise on my fully built quad then you can cut me a deal on parts etc. in exchange for the advertising.

Second, I don't care when people put stickers/graphics kits for brands they do not actually have an example would be like Project Blaster graphics kits when you run a CFM or are just stock.

Full graphic kits/themes should only be rocked if you are supporting that business/companies, like those who have KOR tank graphics because they have their motor ported by Ken. Again though I have seen others say they will get KOR graphics but are rocking stock motors? No offense to those who have done this, but it's lame. Get the work before you rock the brand on your quad.

IMO, graphics kits suck just for the fact that they are not custom to each bike......meaning someone else can have the exact same theme and when doing it on a stockish quad it cheapens yours even if you have put tons of work in.

I am not trying to be a hater, just with so much work put into this quad I'm not going to cheap out with branding or a generic graphics kit. I also am going to keep it to a minimal amount of yamaha but enough to complete the theme.

So, I am not leaving my fenders bare, I have put to much work into this quad to not finish it with a theme so being that this quad is a YFS200R, (yes the 03-06 are called an R by yamaha) I will custom make the theme around this.

So as said, I will give a teaser of just some of the stencil/decals that will become my fender theme. Starting with these Yamaha tuning fork logos. Until it's done you won't see these on my quad but this is what I made this morning. Where they are going they cover to the edge of the fender, hence why the end of all the forks are not there. I do not want to give it all away but I have also made some YFS200R decals and fender angle accent decals.......all custom made, stenciled, and cut by myself out of vinyl and other (as shown with tuning forks which are cut out of red grip-tape) You can also see my original paper stencil as I hand drew these to get them at a certain angle and matching for both sides.

Getting down to the details.......all the finishing picsof the build then vids of this quad running will be up as soon as I finish the details and get the jetting correct but it is almost done.

Re: Finally Ready For Dream Build ... Need Engine Suggestions

whered you get those frame guards?

They're works connection frame guards, I bought these in 07 and have had them sitting around for this build. They stopped making them in 06 but you can still find them every once in a while on ebay, though it's been a bit since I've seen a pair.

They really wouldn't be hard to make. I guess that I can look beyond our previous encounters and if you would be interested, I'd be able to help you with template, mounting points, suggestions, etc for modding up your own, but keep it to the PM, I'm trying to not clutter my build getting too off topic (though I've done this previously, trying to keep it more to my build now) I could probably put up a thread on it but am too busy atm finishing this project, maybe after.

Loving the hand made decals. I also don't like advertising for others and won't run decals for parts I don't have. Can't wait to see the finished product. Keep up the great work.

Re: Finally Ready For Dream Build ... Need Engine Suggestions

looks good man im gonna take all the stickers off that the previous owner put on. Im just gonna rock some yamaha stickers of egay! and maybe depending on who did my port work there name on my swinger lol like flotek, kor, wildcard
