Just fronts as rear makes it sit higher to start with, if you look at pics fronts are YFZ shocks but aftermarket and have adjustability about 1 1/2 longer from YFZ stock length up to 2 inches shorter which would put them in the area of blaster shocks.

Re: Finally Ready For Dream Build ... Need Engine Suggestions

So it's been awhile, I have been under major time constraints, so have not been able to focus on my build. I do not want to let anyone down here, but I am going to get a motor in this thing and button it up as it has been 70's here and I want to ride this thing bad. Although I have collected alot of parts for a ported motor I also have a spare motor which I think I will be putting together to ride while I build the other motor.

So I have to split parts down the middle, but I have collected so many parts it really is not gonna be an issue.

Re: Finally Ready For Dream Build ... Need Engine Suggestions

So this is what is going to happen, I have an 06 motor and a 03 motor. The 03 is going to be my ported motor build which I am going to slowly start after I get my quad done and running with the 06 motor. The 06 is not a bad motor either (meaning stock) in the fact that it will have alot of what is pictured.

The 34mm TM you see in pic with rebuild kit is going to be sold, I want to buy a new carb for my ported motor. Not that this one is bad, I have full rebuild kit (pictured). I just want a new one. Yes, redundant but oh well. I want my ported motor build to be as nice and new as my quad. I already invested in a pro-design manifold for it so.....

Regardless the TM 28 which is actually listed as vm part number is what I am going to be using for the non-ported build. The cylinder you see was bought off ebay and was an extra but I recently had it de-glazed (cross-hatched) and have a new wiseco-forged piston for it so yea gonna put it together. I had tried to buy 442's hinson clutch for this motor but it got sold out from under me.

hmmm the easiest way to let you know what's what is to list em separate so

1. 06 - non-ported motor which will be running in quad by end of month

Mods: Wiseco Crank, Wiseco forged piston, EBC dirt digger clutch kit and self-modded basket by way of Ken videos. Mikuni TM28, VF3's, stock carb manifold.

2. 03 - ported build (coming) - Already have stock motor for platform, Barnett clutch basket and clutch kit, VF3's, pro-design manifold for TM34 (which I have, but am going to get another new one), and Need: Piston, Stroker Crank (probably Hot-Rods), Port Work, Head Mill, and I think that's it.

Since I already have the CFM/UNI, It will just stay on quad and transfer.

The reason I decided to do it this way was that I want a non-ported reliable motor as backup, since I have gone back and forth over reliability. Oh, and some might wonder why the 03 and not the 06 for ported motor build, and it is simply due to how clean it is. It doesn't need much to just be up and running.

Re: Finally Ready For Dream Build ... Need Engine Suggestions

all good stuff bro, really liking the rear fender mod !!!!!!

THX, appreciate it. I've gotten a hell of alot of compliments on the fender mod. See, there is sh*t never seen still to be done to a blaster.

As far as my build goes, I will be getting lots of pics going starting tonight, on getting this first motor done and getting this thing running.

And then we will get the new motor build going. It might seem as if I just buy a lot of sh*t but I actually trade, sell, and hustle alot of parts so when I build my second motor, I want it to be done right. I went back and forth on what to do, and then just decided that I would build a good stock motor (which I would have as backup) then build my ported motor right and not a rush job.I:I. I'm glad I have the parts/motors to do this and I promise I will not let those following this build down, but I'm not 442 and can't drop four grand immediately just to build a show motor I won't fire. I'm going to take my time, build a nice second motor and am gonna run this biotch hard. Now and then.

Oh, and gonna take pipe suggestions, I'm keeping my DMC but am thinking I'll switch out when I get second motor done

Re: Finally Ready For Dream Build ... Need Engine Suggestions

yeah im pretty deep into my +3 stroker motor i built, then i threw a 240 kit to ken and he did his magic...i dont even want to add it up because id be like wtf? lol but i rebuilt it right and did the bearings while i had the cases split.

that thing is going to be sick man, if u get ken to do the porting its going to be nasty, i think im going to have flotek do the wifes bike to see how it holds up. just to test the waters with sh*t, hell thats what u should do is send one to ken and the other to another builder and do a comparison?? for sh*ts and giggles.

Re: Finally Ready For Dream Build ... Need Engine Suggestions

So, just a small update, I replaced the clutch in my 06 with the modded clutch boss and outer basket, ebc dirt digger clutch kit. I had opened a thread about some clutch info. as I took pictures of the whole process and plan on doing a complete clutch write up as the video around here sucks. So look forward to that. I then went to clean my cylinder to button up top end and ended up with a bad case of flash rust. This caused me to almost lose my mind as I had never seen it before but thanks to the blaster brotherhood I got that figured out quickly. Lastly this prompted me to take it to my machinist to make sure everything was still good and although it was I ended up leaving it so they could remove all carbon buildup in ports/paint etc. and I will be picking it up in the morning and repainting it.

@2smoker - I had thought about what you are saying and the ported motor build I will be doing will be sent off. I'm an avid fan of the DIY though and on my spare cylinder (two motors, three cylinders), I will be trying my hand at the DIY porting from Ken.

Re: Finally Ready For Dream Build ... Need Engine Suggestions

hel lhow much u want for one of them cylinders, lookin for one cheap for the wifes bike to get ported. if u want to help a brotha out, pm me if interested, or i might have some parts u need laying around.

Re: Finally Ready For Dream Build ... Need Engine Suggestions

Sorry man, I would, but it took me awhile to track down that extra in good condition. I don't know if I confused you but I only got one extra, the other two go to my two motors. And I had really wanted the spare to try and port myself. If in fact it works out well when I get around to doing it, which I cant guarantee, I will PM you about the stock one it will be taking the place of.

Re: Finally Ready For Dream Build ... Need Engine Suggestions

hey with the fender why didnt you just move them back and inch or 2 since your runnin a cfm anyway?
still looks great but just need up dates

The fender mod was to take up hole where plastic pieces went and even them out. I hate the mod to move back fender as it does not look correct IMO and updates soon I got alot

Re: Finally Ready For Dream Build ... Need Engine Suggestions

So, As stated this engine was super clean, I built a custom oil block off (super easy, don't buy) as pictured: Oh also put in my clutch and new stainless case bolts (didn't have camera day I did this). If I have to pull it back apart I'll snap a pic.

Next, as stated, the whole head was apart, I had a small issue with flash rust but it's all good now: leaving this bare......

Next all new forged piston kit, using cometic est gaskets, not ones supplied with this kit:

Motor ready for break in......almost: I think for top end break in I will be hooking up stock carb/airbox as it is jetted correctly etc. then after break in, I will switch over manifold, carb, air box and then re-tuning/jetting. Although I have already tuned one of these carbs, I do not want to take chances on jetting while doing break-in.

Man deciding what I'm using for this motor, and how long my ported motor build is going to take is getting hard. The trenga cover which will be switched over is going to have to be brushed I think to match rest. It's hard to keep sh*t polished as my riding area is not nice to polish....lol. I debated long and hard whether to paint this head, but actually think it'll look good like this with my freshly painted flat-black exhaust coming out of it. Since this motor will only be on this riding season, I decided the bare head would not be a big issue.

Re: Finally Ready For Dream Build ... Need Engine Suggestions

where the hell did you get the exhaust flage gasket like that. or did you make it? never seen one of those for the blasty

Re: Finally Ready For Dream Build ... Need Engine Suggestions

Looks good. I like the bare finish on the cylinder and head.

Thanks man, I think now if I paited it again i would do it in that aluminium color but there really is no point as long as I keep it clean it will keep things cooler. Regardless, it'll get switched after this summer riding season anyway. I need to brush my Trenga cover though, it's too shiny when all the rest is brushed.

Re: Finally Ready For Dream Build ... Need Engine Suggestions

Take some sand paper to that black side cover and you won't regret it

Re: Finally Ready For Dream Build ... Need Engine Suggestions

Truthfully, I do not want to take the black off, That is actually a brand new never ran clutch-side cover, I thought at one point it would be sweet to do a solid flat-black motor. I almost had that trenga cover powder-coated black but then decided i'd brush it.

Don't take this wrong, but I am not a fan of polished ... I at one time early in my build thought it might be cool, but so many go this route. It looks good just not my gig, I like to set mine apart from the pack. As nice as it is now while being built, this is my trail quad, not built to sit and look nice (though it doesn't hurt). I'm still thinking about flat-blackin the whole motor when I do my ported one.

Also, I know I've promised some pics, today....I promise....lol, I'm getting off right now to go drop my motor in .... I:I
