so i bought used 86? atc250r rear hubs for my blaster

they fit but i had to leave the washer off

they worked great on the test drive but didnt last long (5 laps around a 100yard course we made) till one stripped the splines

now i may have gotten a bad set from ebay as they were used and a lil rusted and i wouldnt put it past ebay to sell stripped hubs, they were cheap

i almost blue glued the hub on with my millermatic cause i just wanted to ride

they went on snugly with some hammer tapping and one i was concerned with when installing because it looked a little off inside, idk if that is the one that stripped

is anyone else running hubs to convert to 4x110 bolt pattern?

im debating buying a replacement atc hub so i can convert back to my 22" rims/tires

do you guys strip splines often? i put my stock hubs back on and rode all day on em so im pretty sure the axle is still good as i caught it really early into my ride...1 wheel drive isnt fun, i thought i had a blown clutch cause it would just revvvv when id hit it but wouldnt go anywhere. my buddy pointed out it looked like only one tire was throwning mud. a quick rev and clutch pop later and viola the culprit was found.

i want the 4x110 lugs in the rear so when me and my buddys go quadding we only need 1 spare set of tires (300ex &400ex)

other option is does anyone in nj want to trade some 22" x9" mud tires mounted for some almost new itp holeshots 20" x8 mounted on blaster rims ?

Hondas has a different amount of splines and does not match up to a blaster.Hence why you had to hammer it on.Its going to strip them out everytime. Sounds to me like you are ready to weld them on or make them work whatever way you can. Not the right way to do things. Now drilling out those rims to a yamaha pattern would be brilliant:o:p

i read that 86 atc250r has 24 spline hubs that fit w/o grinding like the 400ex hubs

youd be better off using yfz 450 hubs

not the 4x110 honda pattern

i got another set setup for snipe tomorrow ill try replacing them with new ones

if it fails again i might tack it in 2 spots and see how long it holds, im not gonna do a full bead around as i wanna be able to service the rear end stuff

I had someone tell me older honda was 24 spline as well. I don't really want a set tho. I'd rather get a set of 4x115 hubs for my ltr450 actually as my realtor 22"s are 4x115. but I've been thinking of trying to find a jig to drill my wheels for both patterns tho... pita to find, IF I can get one made I'm thinking of getting a bunch made and selling them online lol

I just cross drilled a set of rims, I made a jig out of 2 hubs and a clutch alignment tool

I made a thread in diy

Hubs strip at the best of times. Water gets in there, rust, locknut cannot hold it tight enough, often stripped and weak too, gets moving back and forth on the splines. I locktite the splines. Clean them right off, coat them in the standard blue Locktite and slide them together, put the washer and nut on and locktite that too.

Here is my thinking. The locktite keeps out all water and stops all movement of the hub on the spline. It acts like a plastic damper that even my 45hp on pavement cannot break free. The locktite under the nut does the same thing, keeps the water out and lubricates the nut on and off saving the threads from stripping.

To get the hubs off I have to heat them up (to the point they smoke oil) with a propane torch. once they are that hot they slide off pretty easy, especially now there is no rust build up.

I have a set of Banshee(?) hubs so I can run a larger pair of rims. Have a set of Honda rims too, so was looking at making a "universal spacer" with the different bolt patterns on it but the center "register diameter" is different on most rims.

When I dug this photo up, I noticed a comment on it: "surprising amount of drag on the axle, 6 rubber seals!"

It may make sense to peel away the center 2 or even all 4 on the bearings if you are not running in water and are greasing the hub with a nipple.
