first build wanna do it right but dont have deep pockets

alright so can i still use the piston with those small divits on the side..... the are only on one side of the piston. the baring looks great, but the rod moves a tiny bit up and down on the baring of the crank shaft, i know side to side movement is ok but what about a little play up and down, do i need a new rod? and brandoz28 was right it is a vito's superstock piston. ive soaked the piston in carb cleaner and started cleaning it with a brass wire brush but it is giving me a hard time. so im thinking break cleaner may be the next best thing... a little stronger?

ok i am going to give you some advice that was given to me and i didn't listen to. do not reuse that piston. your crank is shot! absolutely NO up and down play. I was told these things and didn't listen. I rebuilt my blasty time after time. I took my time and did all the builds very carefully and followed the manual step by step. but i did not replace all the parts that needed to be replace. hence the stack of distroied pistons in my garage. I have about 5 pistons piled up from a very expensive and difficult learning curve. Just bite the bullet and save the money. get a new crank or have ken rebuild yours but the costs are so close you might as well buy a new one. have the crank trued by ken oconnor before you install it. yes they come screwed up from the factory. while your at it send your jug to ken and have him check it out and tell you what you need to do about getting a bore job and /or piston to match it. any questions dude ask away. i have been there done that and i reallly wish someone had written me a book like this and preached at me.

alright so what piston and crank should i get and if ima buy all this new stuff ima go ahead and get it bored, if i do this what else do i need to buy besides the pistons and rings if i bore it?

boreing does nothing for power, you only bore a cylinder to clean up damage. you can get a true big bore kit wich gives you a 72mm piston up from the 66mm stock but porting is where the power is at, FLOTEK is my guy and is absolutely amazing but ken oconner has lots-o-fans also I:I

a new gasket kit for the top end, new crank seals and bearings. hotrods makes a good oem. they seem to be doin a better job on them than everyone else lately. weisco piston. if you send your jug and crank to ken he will bore it and order the piston for you.
by the way don't get a cheap base gasket for the cylinder buy an oem one they are way way way way better

LMFAO yeah i know it's hard to resist goin all crazy on what you can do at the start of a full rebuild

alright well if i send the jug to ken with the crank what am i looking at paying? like you said im low on cash, and you said rebuilding the crank is about the same price so send him mine or a new one? is there a wait on him working on my engine? im literaly about to pull apart the bottom end so ill let you know if i find out anything else im usings kens videos on u tube so hes already more apart of the project than he knows

he charges like 60 to bore and i think 110 to supply the piston. he checked my crank for free but i was getting a good amount of work done so don't quote me on that. I would buy a new crank and ship it to him or have it directly shipped. go to his web site kenoconnorracing.com
