My engine is acting odd, it almost sounds like it is maxing out at different Tom's n in different gears n under different loads. When it does this it kind of sounds like the engine is farting n popping thru the Carb, what could cause this?

Also I saw in a video on here that someone here sells leak down testers, who is that and how much are they?

slickerthanyou sell the leak testers! i would pm him about it. also that may sound like eaither a leak, or the flywheel key is sheared. someone else would chime in on that.

I would check the float level first. It may be sticking open at time making it run real rich. I would also take a good look at the reeds. When did last clean your air filter?

maybe an ignition issue, perhaps your woodruffkey id sheared but id start with a leak test, check reeds, clean carb and note your jetting, give it a new plug then get back to us

I got a jet kit n put in a 290 main n it runs a lot better now. But a new question for you all, when I get into the high rpms it vibrates my frame so bad that its kinda hard to hold onto the handle bars, any ideas why and how to fix it or is it a normal thing?

The balancer gear inside your clutch cover may be broken. It is attached to the counter balancer which is there to dampen vibration.

Is this when you left off on the throttle ? or when you are applying throttle ?

Now, some of the others gave some pretty good tips for you to check out with your blaster.

This sounds like to me, it might be the reeds or a dirty carb, a partially clogged jet.

But thats only if this is happening when you are letting off the throttle, when shifting. not when applying.

I quoted you, because that was the one piece of information, I need, If you can reply back with it.

Otherwise, I would say they are right on, look at the balancer/ flywheel. make sure its not sheered. You might check your coil and insure that you do not have a week spark going on.

Thanks

Thanks for your tip, you pointed me in the right direction. I found that my clutch housing has play and the balancer Ger n shaft has play and on top of that I also have to replace my flywheel and stator assembly. Looks like I might be out of commission for longer then I thought waiting for parts to come in.

Is there suppose to be play in the balancer gear itself? I took it off and the gear moves in the brace that's on it. Want to know if its normal or if I need yo get a new one.

Very little play is normal, alot of play is not! I have leaktesters, they are $33 shipped in the 48 states.

I found the vibration problem, first was the shaft that my clutch is on was bent n second the counter shaft gear wasn't aligned with the crank shaft so I replaced the shaft for the clutch, put the case back together n then realized that I forgot to put the clutch rod in the new shaft so now I have to pull it back apart n by new case bolts.

After a complete tear down, replaced the clutch gear shaft, n aligned the balancer gear with the crank gear, replaced the stator(thanks yamaha28), flywheel n flywheel cover(thanks itstyler), it is finally alive once again. Feels so good to ride again.
