ok well ive been slowly diagnosing my horrible throttle lag..the other night i managed to get my quad moving. but in order to do so i have to give a rediculous amount of throttle. my jetting is as follows : 48 pilot, 155 main, 1st clip from top needle and im not sure of the turns on the screw.. im running 93 octane. with an oko 28mm. the rest of the mods are in my sig.

do i need to keep going higher on the pilot? it is more responsive with the choke on but i want to make sure before i buy more pilots

Sounds like your pritty lean on bottom if pulling the choke helps it's cuz your lean. Go up on pilot. Start with screw at 1 1/2 turns out.

if it gets better with choke out ...then its telling you its starving ,sounds like it needs more pilot and likely richer needle clip setting .dont be afraid to experiment ..personaly id try needle in middle and 52 pilot

Yes, you'll need to buy larger (richer) pilots, and perhaps a richer main jet as well. Since the pilot jet controls fuel delivery right off of idle, it has a direct bearing on the engine's (lack of) throttle response. A # 48 pilot sounds a bit lean for your setup. Anytime that the engine runs better with the enrichener open is a sign that the jetting is needs to be increased a size or two.

I have a Keihin 28mm PWK carburetor (essentially the same as an OKO) on my Blaster, and I'm just now getting it to idle well with a # 65 pilot. I run a pod-type air filter, so the carb requires larger pilot and main jets to compensate for the increased air flow. If you're still running an airbox, I'd try a pilot from the low and mid '50's, and tune it from there. The airscrew should be out at least 1/2 turn, but no more than 3 turns, when the pilot jet is sized correctly. If your needle currently has to be raised almost all the way up for best performance, I'd also recommend that you get a larger main jet. :D

thanks for all the help..im gonna buy a bunch of larger pilots from rocky mtn since they only charge 3.62 per jet whereas jetsrus charges like 7 per jet

this sounds like good advise

yeah and to the person who said watch out for aftermarket jets, ive purchased all genuine keihin jets. i just ordered a bunch now sizes are as follows:
Pilots: 50 55 58 60 62
Mains: 168 170 172 175

so now i have a nice variety of jets..im not gonna put the big ones in with my current setup but once i get my powerpros ill throw in the larger jets, thats the only reason why i ordered some pretty big ones

Again............................
What happens?
I'd try 2nd and 3rd clips.
May fix it.

oh i didnt know you were asking me that, i thought the higher it was the richer..i had it on the second for a while but just put it to the top the other day..havent did much experimenting with it

you got it backwards man..
moving the clip down makes it richer..
moving the clip up makes it leaner....

LOL.
Yeah.
You will be pretty close with a 48 or 50 pilot. I could not imagine you needing anything over a 52 with the OKO 28mm. I am basing this on us having similar builds and the same carb.
I am at 1100ft and with the weather in the high 60's a 50 pilot is a hair rich with a 158 main and 1st clip on the needle. But, I am also running VP C-12 mixed with 91 pump fuel. 3 parts VP, 1 part pump. 32:1 on the oil. So with the difference in fuel and 20 degree temps, you may need the 50 or 52 pilot and 2nd clip (maybe even 3rd) and a 162 main or 165 main. I would pull the carb off and find somewhere warm to make the adjustment and then go try it!
:D
But if it runs better with the choke on, you need the clip to go down, which in turn holds the needle up higher.
Good luck!

yea i got confused with the whole clip position thing, thanks for all the help. once my jets come ill throw them in and see what happens. hopefully its good news. its getting closer to snow season and i want to be able to rip sh*t up once it snows lol

also, knowpig i tried giving you rep, but it wont let me lol.
