Anybody on here into the metal detector hobby ? Just traded my old laptop for a mint minelab sovereign XS-2A pro . Never done it before but wanted to for a long time.
My uncle and I go every other weekend or when it's dry enough. Best thing I've found so far is a 1844 seated liberty silver half dollar that was knife cut for change. Didn't even hit it with the coil. The NUMBERS caught my eye sitting in the middle of the row. And I'm blind as a bat!!

That's cool. I'm more into finding real old stuff. I'm not really looking to find stuff to make money from. It would be nice to find some valuable stuff but not expecting to.
i've always wanted to try that too, with the 3 major floods we've had here, 1889, 1936 and 1977.
there has to be some buried treasure down near the river ???
those minelabs are supposed to be the shizzle !!!!
Ya we like finding stuff just to have. My uncle is a coin collector so that's all we look for. And that's all we CAN'T find LOL!! We have a BUNCH of porcelain buttons, a brass pour spigot, and some clay marbles, grape shot, 3-ringers (3-ring .50 cal) and some pistol shot. Want me to get a video of some buttons, marbles and bullets? I don't have the grape shot or spigot here at my house but can get a picture or two next weekend
Yea they did. Back then the coins themselves didn't have value. It was the weight of te precious metal they were made out (in this case silver) and the goods were also valued that way. Say, 8 pounds of grain was worth 5oz of silver: a coin is only 3oz and the person didn't have the 'change' silver so they took another 3oz coin, agreed upon a cut, put a knife to it, and smacked it with a hammer to cut it. Then you have a 3oz whole coin, and 2oz of another coin making up the whole 5oz the grain was worth. (note: I have NO IDEA OF COIN WEIGHT. THIS WAS AN EXAMPLE LOL)
