The neighbor's Blaster is pretty impressive now that it's together and running. I put about nine hours into porting the cylinder to MacDizzy's specs (1989 Blaster Rebuild). Third gear wheelies were no problem...these quads are awesome!

what was the problem with it when u couldnt get it running

It idled great, it just wouldn't rev out. The problem was I installed a 250 main to be on the safe (rich) side, but it was too much for the engine. I wish the local shop would've had a 240, but at least I was able to get a stock 230 for it. I couldn't re-use the main jet that was in it when I first started the rebuild...the quad had a 120 main in it! At first I thought the 120 was drilled-out, but it wasn't. Crazy, huh?

You can read the 14 page rebuild here.

Maybe third gear, throttle only wheelies are the norm on a Blaster. I don't know, but they sure are fun. I can't wait for the kid to buy a larger carb and performance pipe.

I know that I have alot of fun on my Blasters. I am 36 and Weigh 280#s but I always have fun on them. I will oneday have a Banshee but have yet found the need to buy one. I have my buddy's and his wife's Banshees to use whenever and I only miss having a Banshee when I an trying to keep up with everyone else. After Kennedy build my engine it should have similar power to my friend wife's banshee-- 35-40hp. :D

On the Blaster, I kinda felt like I was riding a scaled-down Honda 250R. I bought a 2003 Banshee brand-new. It was a blast, but I hated buying two of everything...carbs, reeds, pipes. Thankfully I never had to do a top-end on it. I'm digging the Blaster and I love my Honda 250R's.

i love blasters but i still want a 250r and a banshee. banshee's are everywhere here for like 2500 but finding a 250r is next to impossible why is that?

Well, where is here? And the 250r was made for 3 or 4 years and the banshee for something like 19 or 20 years. I regualrly see 250r going for between 2500-4000 dollars in my area. I have seen one that I want but it is going for $9k.

Did you do the mcDizzy barrel raise with the 1mm spacer????

No. I wanted to, but I didn't. The piston the kid picked out has a cut-away on the crown for the exhaust port, so I didn't raise the cylinder. He's only losing a bit of flow at the transfer & boost port windows without the spacer.

To the guys shopping for 250R's, here in the Midwest they're pretty easy to find for $1,500 - $2,500. Kansas City, Missouri seems to be a hot spot for 250R's on Craigslist. Happy hunting.

were i like in VA there r nice trx 250rs going for 1500 all the time...but i just ride my dads full restoed 250r....alot of a/m pats

ok cool, i was also looking at raising the barrel but decided against it, apparently, there is an article in the SAE engineering journal from the 80's about whu yamaha designed the ports to be somewhat blocked by the piston, something to do with vortex development...
