I contacted someone off Ebay who is local and might be able to help me out, he has a YZ125 flywheel in good shape. I was thinking about taking a blaster crank over and seeing if they matched.

If so, I'd like to get the flywheel and stator plate as a package deal off of him and then I'll see how to fit the stator plate into the blaster. From the looks of it, the YZ125 stator cover is nearly round (even though the stator plate is NOT) so I'm thinking that even with the pickup hanging to the outside, it's a small enough diameter to fit inside the blaster stator side cover. It probably will require a custom stator plate but I'm ok with that.... Fabbing is my 4th middle name 8-|

I bought a PVL dual outlet .6ohm coil yesterday. I've got to figure out what wires I'm going to use now... I like the nology wires but they're $30 a piece and I need two.

I'm thinking I could find some good strong 8mm "racing" wires for an automobile and they should work great too.... the internal resistance should be low and I can find them in a "make it yourself" version where I can cut them to length and install the wire ends on for my particular length :)

the profire wires have a special material in them that helps to hold and intensify energy. i cant remember exactly how it works, but it tells you on the site. i would bet they do help a little. if its only saving $10 or so why not go for them? you got a killer deal on that coil! better than my prices..lol

I'm not much one for buying into hype.... Does that material in the wires actually change the output?

For $10, I don't think I can actually go wrong even if the wires aren't actually special and they're just good wires....

I didnt read the whole thread but caught the battery issue part. An idea I had was an R/C helicopter battery. Light weight, easy to swap out between rounds.

Example:

ProTek R/C 4S "Supreme Power" Li-Poly 45C Battery Pack (14.8V/4200mAh) [PTK-LP-4200-4S45] | Batteries - A Main Hobbies

Similar power to the ebay one that was reccomended. Although you would need a specific charger, most chargers are D/C and could use the battery in your tow vehicle if you need to re-charge. They make bigger versions but they get spendy as the ah goes up.

Thunder Power Pro Power "G6" 4S Li-Poly Battery 65C (14.8V/7700mAh) [THP7700-4SPP65] | Batteries - A Main Hobbies

Not sure if you have decided on something, just trying to help.

Hmmm 4S lips at about 15V would supply power but back charging it would be out of the question then (while the engine is running)

I have a bunch of 3S lipo stuff for my heli and electric airplanes so I know all about Lipo's advantages ( and risks :o). May be something I have to look into if I ever do get froggy and go with an EFI system on this monster. Due to costs, at this time, I'm retaining the PJ38 carburetor and building a custom CDI unit powered by a flywheel powered stator.

yeah thats what im sayin.. I:I

a-ight, i've watched the talk on these wires for a few days now, the wires have a built in capacitor, not some hokus pokus material that isnt proven
taken right from the nology wire description............

Nology Motorcycle HotWires spark plug wires are the most technologically advanced ignition wires available for your motorcycle or atv. HotWires create the most powerful spark possible because HotWires are engineered with a special built-in capacitor, exclusive only to Nology Motorcycle HotWires. This revolutionary design allows energy from the ignition coil to accumulate in the capacitor until the voltage at the spark plug electrodes reaches the ionization point. At that split second point the entire power of the stored spark is discharged at once, creating a spark 300 times more powerful.

I'm not necessarily calling the hot wires theory bunk but come on, 300 times more powerful?

We're talking about the wires with a capacitor built taking 15,000 volts and turning that into 4.5 million volts..... I call their calculations complete BS and if they're willing to expect that people will swallow ^^^ that calculation, what else are they expecting you to swallow?

Now, For only $10 more for the nology wires, even if they're JUST good wires (and provide NO extra spark) I could see giving them a shot anyway.

oh, i agree with ya on the claims, just kept seeing " special material" mentioned and knew i saw "in wire capacitor" which would increase the volatge,
300x ?? prolly not !
maybe 300% ??

My problem with even more than a slight increase in voltage is that the electricity would find an alternate path other than the spark plug. Once the spark plug gap is filled with plasma, the resistance increases exponentially until the wire would fail. A 7mm wire with more than 30vk flying down it is going to burn through the insulation at any weak points and arc to ground before it ever reaches the spark plug.

Spark is one of those things, you only need more when you don't have enough. Once you have enough, no more is going to help no matter HOW much more you get.

/\/\ agreed,
i say as long as your compression, or alky, isn't blowing out the flame, you don't need more

MAN I HAVEN'T BEEN HERE IN A WHILE!!!

Alright, i have your battery solution, i own 1 and it's awesome.

Look for CCTV batteries.

Heres 1...
12V Rechargeable Li-po Battery for CCTV Cam 6800mAh #2 | eBay

They are protected cells with cut off voltages and what not. Now honestly, i think a 6.8amp draw would trigger the protection circuits. But a few of them running in parallel could push the amps no problem for a long time.

They also get cheaper than that...
Portable 12V Li-po Super Rechargeable Battery Pack DC for CCTV Camera 1800mAh | eBay

not as many amps, but cheaper, 2-3 will push 5amps without triggering the protection. I know a 20W halogen light triggers mine, i have to pulse power from the battery to get the light to turn on, it's the inrush power that gets it.

High Voltage anyone?
Streetwise Touchdown 7.5 Million Rechargeable Stun Gun

I don't believe the hype on a spark plug wire, but we can get high voltage extremely fast. Now how do we combined the circuits of a CDI and a stun gun ?:)

I'm on the trail guys, there's someone on CL right near me parting out a 1999 YZ125. I sent a message earlier tonight but didn't get a reply. I'm going to be burning up his telephone tomorrow though!

I want the YZ125 flywheel and stator plate off his part out and I'll go ahead and order the components to do the custom CDI.

^^^^ that guy was a bust but I'm on two ignition setups....

I order a Motion Pro terminator braided jacket clutch cable, got a clutch perch off someone last night I'm going to be modifying into an EZ pull for it and a frozen caliper I'm going to be scavenging for parts for the mechanical caliper I plan on running.

Getting back to work fella's. Don't worry, I wasn't letting this go just because I didn't make the September deadline.
