I am attemting to rebuild my front hubs. Everything is apart except I can't get the outer race of either bearing out of the hub. The inner race along with the balls came out leaving the outer race behind. I've tried using a punch to knock them out but there is no lip for it to catch on. I tried to heat the hub with a propane torch but am afraid to heat them up to hot and deform the metal surrounding the bearings. Any ideas?

Take a dremel CAREFULLY cut two slices across from each other without going through to the hub. This will relieve pressure on the outer race that is left and help you get it out.
Don't be afraid of a little heat either, try some heat before cutting into it,if heat doesn't work get out a dremel.Good luck

Gonna go try right now. Fingers crossed.

lots of heat and pb blaster are your freinds here, a propane torch wont make enuf heat to melt or deform anything, fire away

take it to a machine shop 10$.

absolute worst case you can take it to someone with a welder and have them tack a slide puller to it and it pops right out.

Dremel cuts grooves but each piece still seems attached. These very well could be the oem's from 98. Heat and pb blaster also proved to be a dead end. What can a machine shop do to help me? Anyone know?

did you not read what i posted up there a few posts?? find any cool mechanic shop and they can tack the fingers of a slide puller to the inside of the races and they pop right out.

machiiiiiiiiiiiiiineeeeeeeeeeeee shooooooooooooooooooooop is the simpliest way, and you dont need to buy tools.

Did someone say machine shop? We do a lot of this type of work. I favor the grinding stone on the die grinder trick. A dremel will work but it will take longer. It sounds like you're not going deep enough with your grooves. You need to cut thru the outer race. Most of the time one side of it is enough. You'll see the center of the groove change color when you get into the bore. Try not to grind too deep into the bore if you can help it.

Yes I read what you posted. But since I do not have a slide puller or a welder and seeing as machine shops are closed on Saturday nights your advice wasn't an option yesterday. But now that the other methods didn't work I will pursue your idea Monday when the machine shop in town opens up.
