Removing the rear axle?

Are these things pressed in? How are you suppose to get them out? I've been trying for 2 days to remove one and it's barely moving. All I can say is I'm glad I'm not reusing this one because I've trashed it.

Assuming you have everything but the axle and the carrier removed,
get a block of wood and a big fuggin hammer and whale on it from the side.
They get stuck in there sometimes.

yeah what paulie said, i've noticed an actual groove worn where the axle rides the bearings, and tends to hang up, bfh and a block of wood will do it

I take everything apart as far as I can.Then get a big piece of wood 2x12 or so.Hold the carrier with both hands and slam the end of the axle onto the wood while holding the carrier.Always works for me.Also use some penetrating oil in the carrier first to help it along.Good luck.

I have been hammering on this thing for a couple hours with a 5lb sledge and it hasn't budged. This is getting rediculous.

bang the axel out with a sledge hammer from the left side (standing behind it) it will come out the right side, make sure you loosen your rear hub nut too, it will need to come off to remove the axel when i did my bearings i used a piece of pipe that fit around that big nut and banged on the end with a sledge hammer, its also easier with 2 people.

i pulled my axle last night and all i had to do was remove the left rear tire and hub. remove my thread locker and brake caliper, and slide it out.. didn't even take the chain off..

when i just replaced mine i had to use a maul while my wife held the wood, trust i tryed the gentle thing also and i didnt work. when the axle finally decided to come out it shot across my garage.
