Just want to say thanks for the help on the carb jetting. The 280 is working perfect. My next question is on sprocket combos. Im running a 13/45 setup now, but im thinking of changing to a 14 front. What is everyones opinion on great wheelpulling, holeshot, fold the %$&* on sprocket combos? And it needs to be compatable with the port job in the near future.

yea huback, everyone keeps telling me blasters should run 55 stock.lol. at least when i downsize i will have enough links in the chain. maybe i should check that back again. could have swore it said 45.:-/

13/40 is the stock ratio. 55 would be huge, thats like dirtbike size. I believe the lowest you can go on the stock hub is a 38T, and you can go lower with i think its a trx 250r rear hub (not 100% sure on that, iirc it was some honda hub).

Edit: it seems that this forum enjoys replacing the % sign with % That would be the cause of all the broken photobucket links for the first photo in each post

mine had a 12 / 40 when i bought it and i couldnt shift the damn thing fast enough and it had no top end at all would rip ur arms out in first gear though lol

i think he meant 55 mph lol

With the stock 13/40 gearing and just open airbox/270 re-jet, mine shows 56.5 on a handheld GPS for top end. Seemed like it ran out of gearing before running out of power, so going to a 14 might get you to 60 at the expense of some acceleration. Though honestly I seldom use 5th, and even more rarely 6th where I ride so top end isn't that big of a deal for me. Typically run in either 3rd or 4th for the woodland trails around me, only use the top gears when running down a road or across a field.

another with 14/40 here

i run 18 inch tires, still has plenty of torque for the trails and a decent amount of speed

I ran a 13/42 (18 inch tires) for awhile looking for the holeshot, but all it really seemed to do was spin tires and require shifting gears so much faster. A 13/45 would be even worse. I've now gone the other way, 14/40 feels good, tops out well, and it still has the grunt for a 2nd gear launch. True I have a bit more motor than before but the 13/42 was only good for climbing hills.

you will be surprised, with a 14/40 gearing over 13/40 you might actually gain more acceleration. that is if you have the power.
like if you have good power through out the rpm range, a bigger gear ratio would be better. it would require less shifting.
personally for hill climbing, i liked the taller gear ratio. you can launch 2nd, get some speed without shifting into 3rd then you can check the rpms up without having to shift down usually.

Thanks guys, looks like i will be tring the 14,40 combo. Tired of running through all 6 gears within a couple hundered feet. Save that other combo for the test and tune at the drag strip.:D
