Ok, I've been having a problem that has been driving me crazy. Long story short, water is getting into my flywheel when I wash the blaster or water is around the stator cover area. Here is the list of things I've tried to do to fix it,in order.

1) Replace Stator Cover seal with genuine Yamaha Stator Cover Seal.
2) Used silicone gasket around the area where the cables go in to seal them.
3) When that did not worked, used Silicone Gasket Maker(not hardened)

Water is still getting into my flywheel after all that, I have carefully and patiently examined and I can't identified where the water is coming from. Im 100% sure that from the cable it is not, no water at all there. But water in the stator cover is all over so I cant clearly identify the source. And there is no water in an specific area of the seal.

Im thinking condensation but I highly doubt it, doesnt seem possible to me because even when the motor is completly cold, water still gets in.

Need suggestions.

Mine does the same thing, when I ride in water or after a good washing. I just drain it, and move on. That cover is something that comes on and off so I really don't want to seal it everytime. I usually just crack the bottom 2 bolts and let it drain and be on my way.

There's little plugs that go in the holes in the cover there's 3 2 on top and one by the sprocket make sure you've got all 3 you're probably missing the one by the sprocket.

Got all three, i used silicone gasket on them. I really dont want to drain it everytime cuz I ride in wet conditions all the time.

This is the gasket maker I used. Recommend anything better?

I had ths happen on my first blaster. turned out that the wrap around the wires was acting like a straw. On the inside of the cover side, smother the rubber grommet, where the wires go in to the stator, with rtv. I used A LOT!! Fixed it for me

I actually did it on this blaster just cause my memory recalled. If my explanation doesn't make sense let me know I can get some photos.

I used rtv on the outside of the rubber gommet where the cables go in. Im gonna try the inside of it, although when I took off the cover, that area was really dry. No sign of water

be sure to seal the other end where the 4/5 wires exit the plastic covering and connect to the harness right above the clutch arm, water could be migrating thru that covering the whole way into the cover.

the manuals out there for bikes, quads do say that you need to pay attention to it as part of regular maintenece:)
maybe a crack in plastic cover, but sounds like you have examined it pretty good.

^^ not sure what you meant...but yea the cover has no cracks whatsoever.

Good Suggestion. Do you think overtighting the bolts could lead to some warp and be the source of the problem? I cant find torque specs for those bolts on the manual.

eeehhh, both the plastic cover and the rubber gasket should return to their shape once the bolts are loosened

here's the torque specs, it's not much @ 7.2 ft/lbs....

Well that was dumb of me, I was looking under stator cover, not crankcse cover LOL. Thanks for the info awk, I definately over tighten those bolts. Ill give them tomorrow the correct spec and see if that fixes the problem.
