about 2 miles from my house whe have this :
Imagem0115.jpg

It's a Dolmen (also called Anta or Mamoa) and was used as burial place
It is dated at about 6000 years old.
The top stone weighs about 15 tons

Imagine building this without any machinery !!
there are also some old bridges around (some date back from the roman era)

That would be awesome to ride around stuff like that. I wonder how that 15 ton rock was put up on the other rocks. They obvisouly didn't have a group of people just lift it up.

Hi
Yes it is a great place to ride and live, we have all sorts of terrain
with the exception of big open plans (only in the south of the country)
most are tight mountain roads, water crossings, old bridges, rocky hills, etc.
Good weather for most of the year too.
Alot of dirt roads date back to the roaman era !

Almost all of the roads are public roads, so as long as you have a licence plate
(most quads have) and a drivers licence , insurance and road tax (5€ per year for the blaster)
you can ride all you want, when you want !!
:)

With more and more countries getting ever more restrictive laws on off road activity, Portugal
is becoming a great off-road/adventure tourist destination.

bye

Hi
Remember it's 15 tons: metric tons = 15000 kg so about 30 000 lbs
This was most likely done with a big ramp made of dirt then just draging the thing up there on tree rolls ou something.

This was a burial chamber much like the piramids in Egipt.
there is another one (smaller ) about 2 miles away and another one (also smaller ) about 5 miles away

All have the entrance turned to the south.

Stonehedge was used as a calender.

Still you have to admire the mindset of the people, this must have taken years to build cutting and transporting the thing only to be used as a burial for a few kings or someone.
Nowadays most people don't now where there going to be a week from now !
