so today i was given a yamaha blaster. they believed the transmission was messed up so it hasnt been started in 4-5 years. i got it home and took the gas tank off and cleaned it out then took the carb off and cleaned the jets out. and spent an hour unplugging the gas feed to the needle valve. after i did this i reassembled and it started right up. i have 1st gear neutral and sometimes 2nd they work fine. but after second the shifter is impossible to make go up as if u were out of gears. what could be the problem here? also the oil leaks very severely out of the clutch cover where the the clutch arm goes into the case if someone could give give me a part number for a new seal?
-Thanks for all the helpI:II:I

ok thank you!:) and im pretty sure they arent blown out. Also would i just have to by new shifter forks?

It all depends on what went wrong. Either way you are going to have to split the engine to repair it. But the shifter forks would be simpler.

ok thank you for all the help i will probably take it aprt within the next couple days

ill post pics.

First off, do a little more diagnonsis. Pull the clutch cover and look for problems with external shift mechinisim, claw, shift star. Either buy a Clymers or find the download around here. Could even be bent shift shaft.

The shift drum most likely split where the shift star goes on.Had the same issues on the g/f's blaster i could not go past third. So i swapped in a new drum and shift star and the problem was fixed.

:( pulled the bike apart today. and took the clutch off and pulled the shift rod out. it looks like unfortunately im going to have to split the cases:(((( because the shift rod is fine the shift star is fine. and i grabbed the shift star with a pair of plyers and rocked the bike back and fourth and i can go into first neutral and second but then it wedges in between 2nd and 3rd and you cant get to third or any higher. also when i pulled the shift rod out it looked to have metal power on it like stuck in the oil..:/ so i guess im going to pull the motor out in a few put it on the work bench and get to work..:(

could someone please give me a link to a video to open the cases? i think i can do it id just like a video or some instructions.
-THANKS

ok i looked at the thread imma prob make the puller like you did to separate the cases. and blasty 95 ok.

and get yourself a clymer manual, or download the one on this website. It will be EXTREMELY helpful through the process!

thanks for the link!:) and i found the problem... i split the cases this is all it was

that'll do it! check the shift forks over for any scuffing on the pads. Oconnor racing has some really good assembly vids on the site that will give you a few tips and tricks for when you reassemble the motor
