how to seal the header flange?

I've been fighting this for a while and have yet to just weld the flange solid to the header.but when I first fire this blaster up I get black splooge that blows out on my motor.I've got a new spring in it and I've tried the copper rtv as well as quick steal nothing seems to keep it sealed up.after its been running and warmed up the pipe expands enough to seal.it runs fine no issues other than that.what do you guys suggest I thought id tack weld the pipe to the flange remove it then run a bead all the way around it.see any issues with this?its an fmf fatty gold series pipe.I do have it running rich purposely we are under a heat advisory so I'm not taking chances think that has anything to do with it?

I had a hard time getting my Power pros to seal up but, I but a 1/4" bead copper ATV around the end of the pipe then put the flange on bolted it up snug let it sit overnight retourqued the bolts and haven't had a problem since. I wouldn't weld it for two reasons,
1. you won't be able to do a leakdown test as I use my flange with a piece of intertube to seal off the exhaust port.
2. Not sure if left side pipe are the same as my power pros but i have to turn the flange in order to get it on, It will come right off but i never have been able to get it on with out spining the flange at leat 1/8 inch.

Some brands of pipe have a groove inside the header pipe for a high temp o-ring.

Does it have the crush ring between the pipe and the motor?

I have an FMF Fatty. The copper RTV didnt work for me.

I get spooge, and the fatty is just made like sh*t where it bolts to the header flange. Theres ALOT of gap between the 2 pipes, they dont slide snug, and there is only 1 spring holding everything in place. Its totally lame.

Im just going to weld mine.

I have one of these headers as well. I'm going to buy the FMF sealant stuff from Rockymountainatvmc.com with my next order. It's only like 2.50 so I figured I might as well try it since I'll have free shipping anyway.

I have the crush seal between the flange and jug that's not the problem.its where the two slip fit together.I'm going to weld it I think.let me how the fmf sealant works.

I have posted this before but here we go again. This works really well. I unravled an old exaust gasket. took the lead layer and wrapped it around the manifold and pushed the header pipe over it. it sealed up like a champ and won't melt out and it doesn't stick the two together at all.

Ok, so your problem isnt between the flange and the motor? Is it between the exhaust and the flange where it slips on? Take a picture of what your talking about....

Its between the flange and where the exhaust sits on. Its the same issue like every FMF owner out there has. They fit like sh*t. They spooge out, and theres only 1 spring holding it on and it isnt even very strong.

I think I also will try the high temp silicon or even the lead idea off the old gasket, and couple that with a new spring from rmatv.

Ive already tried permatex ultra copper and it got chewed up within an hour of being ran, so I know that stuff wont hold.

you don't use all the lead just enough to seal it up. and it does fit and work. I did it myself and it worked great on my quad and my buddys.
