see if there is an rips in the intake boot.mine was doing this the other day and i went to do a leakdown test and i had a rip in the boot

the cdi's may act the same but they look diffrent. ill guarentee it. i had a 96 and my step bro has a 00

Did he go from stock to Boyesen reeds? If so it sounds like you need to jet it.

you generally don't need to rejet for reeds

You don't always. I've had one that needed and one that didn't personally. Both went from stock to boyesen. It would depend on how it was jetted before and even on the paper work included it says you may need to rejet.

if thr reed broke peices of it r sumwhere... run it til the motor chews it up then u be ok

pull the wires out of the throttle assembly on the bars, unplug the switch,remove it and then tie the wires together. it sounds like a tors issue.
