computer help...

4CFED, Im more of a hands on person when it comes to computers, so im not good at walking through the procedures. You can do a "disk defragmenter" when compresses old files and frees up space on your drives. Another thing i noticed on mine was slowness starting occuring cause i was ate up with spyware. Adaware, adaware.com (i think) has the free download it removes spyware, cookies, and other files that run in the background, therefore eating up CPU usage. Another quick fix is clearing your browser. (under internet options and deleting history) this stuff builds up and the PC ciphers through it every time you use the net. Are you using a HP? They are notorious for this problem. I got three with the same problem you speak of. Also go to control panel and delete some of the BS that you dont use. Myspace IM, Yahoo IM, Limewire, Kazaa, etc.Are notorious for bogging a PC. Because they continue to run off and on in the background even if your logged out. Im not an expert but PM if you want a specific on anything i mentioned. Alot of good info on the net too, google it up... Good Luck..

If you dont have an Anti Virus or its outta date you can get a good free one called AVGFORFREE. I think the site is AVG.com or AVGFORFREE.com. Not sure but you can google it. The stuff the other guys said will work good too or atleast help.

I'm no expert either but this is what I would do.....

1. Control Panel
- You can find the control panel from your start menu
- Choose ADD/REMOVE programs
- Remove any program you do not use from here. Simply deleteing them or moving them to the recylce bin doesn't clean your computer up.

2. Disc Clean up/Defragment
- All programs- Accessories- System Tools
- Do both the Disc Clean up and Defragment
- If you have a task manager, check that and make sure you don't have any un necessary tasks running. YOu whould be able to veiw all your tasks from here and selct them individually to get a definition of the task. I don't recommend stoping anything you aren't 100% sure of.

3. Stop Programs
- In the lower right hand corner of the screen, nxt to the date, you want to make sure to exit any programs that aren't being used. You may have to do this each time you re boot. I'm not sure you to stop them from automatically opening when you reboot but I'm sure you can.

4. RAM
- UPGRADE IT
- RAM: Random Access Memory stores bits of information from each website you visit. By doing this, it allows you to load web pages quicker because the processer can access the information quicker. The more RAM you have, the less the processor has to access it thus causing the computer to run faster!
- UPGRADE IT!!!

5. Operating system
- The operating system itself plays a huge role in the performance of your computer. Windows Vista takes A LOT to run but I beleive it still requires less than XP. If I were you, I would upgrade to Windows 7. The beta test show that it operates using less than any other platform. However, beta test are about stability more than anything and the final product could be different. I say "could be" because I have not used it. I still run the latest version of Vista. I haven't upgraded because I have no need to. I may in the future but why spend the money when this works fine.

6. Buy a new computer
- Often times you can find deals out there where you can get a new computer that is more reliable for roughly the same cost as upgrading your current system. Now I am talking about comparing apples to apples. Buying all the stuff you need to bring your old computer up to the power of a brand new one can get costly unless you know someone who can get you a deal on stuff!

I know I repeated what several said before me, I was just hoping to give you a few ideas and maybe some understanding as to what impacted your "speeds" or "performance"!

Good luck man!!!

As for your BB, you must have Verizon? I ask because there are ways to tether your BB w/o paying the extra money each month. It may not be legal but you can do it. Just have to do a little diggin!

I don't think putting money into an old computer is worth it. How ever if I was you I would start by never going back to bestbuy it is the most over priced store ever. Go to newegg.com they have every thing for computers at a great price. It sounds like you can use a faster cpu and more memory.

^^agreed^^

Best buy is a joke...... Unless you enjoy over paying! However, if you don't mind paying a little extra for stuff, I have some swamp land in Montana for sale? :D

i needed a computer quick.. this one was free and i paid like 65 for the hard drive.. so i have 65 bucks infested in everything..

sounds like upgrading the ram is all i should need to solve the only issue i have.... everything else it performs fine, forums, pictures, music downloading.. just watching some vids is slow

and yes i have verison

so.. should i go for 1 or 2 gb??? im guessing prob the bigger??? is it gonna be worth it to go that big on this computer?? like i said i wont buy another computer tell this one is junk...

idk what my computer is.. its a dell.. for the most part.. has a samsung dvd/cd/rw drive, 4 usb ports.. and the hard drive i bought from best buy. dell monitor, logitec fancy keyboard, and dynex wired mouse. ( fancy one lol)

I believe your computer only comes with 128MB of RAM.

If that is the case, max you could get is 512MB of RAM.

I may have some laying around here you could have. I will look for it tomorrow and let you know. I actually think I have a Dell 300 series that I upgraded the RAM to 512. If I do, you're welcome to it.

I will check my computer supplies tomorrow and let ya know. It won't be till afternoon tho!

If I don't have it, I will ask a few of my friends what they recommend. I'm kinda slick with that stuff but I get a lot of info from them.......

I will hit you up tomorrow!

Have a good Christmas man!!!!

well in my huntin around.. my computer says its got 256.... so idk whats what??

im looking right at the system information right now.....

System
microsoft windows xp
home edition
version 2002
service pack 2

Computer
intel(r) celteron ( tm) cpu
1200mhz
1.20 ghz 256 mb of ram

Yea, that probablly means you have 2 slots for ram and each holds 128...... I am headed to the garage now to see what I have out there. I will let you know shortly. If I have some that will upgrade you, I will send it your way!

Get at you in a few!!!!

I got to looking around... I don't have any new RAM. The only RAM I have is used and probablly wouldn't do much to help your issue.

You could always get a program to clean your RAM but since you don't have any $$ in your computer, you would probablly be better off buying new. If you aren't sure what you are looking at when you take the side off I can send you a picture of what it looks like and where to find it inside your tower.......

I'm not too technical on cpmputers either... I know just enough to find the BOOBIES!!!! LMAO......

Let me know if you need that picture.... I'm going out to work on the quad!

256 mb of ram .. intel(r) celerion cpu

There is your problem....

I've got a dell that had 1gb of Ram when i bought it, it was fast for the first 8 months then it suddenly started getting slower... I took the whole computer apart one night and blew the dust off and everything. I even took out the CPU and it had an AMD 2.66 GHZ Dual Core. The pins got screwed up so i decided its time for an upgrade. Now I have an AMD 3.1GHZ Dual-Core. Fast as hell I tell you!!!! Then for Christmas last year i decided to ask for some RAM. I gotta another 1gb to add to my 1gb. so now i have 2gb of RAM on my desktop. Tell me what your manufacturer of Motherboard, CPU, and RAM. Then i can find you some Ram!!! 256kb of RAM aint enough for you sir.....
