Hi all.

I am THIS close on putting an order at Vito´s for the Keihin 34mm PJ..

KEIHIN`PJ34`CARB`CALIBRATED...

AND this adapter for the airbox:

AIR`BOX`ADAPTOR`::`CARB`FOR...

The reason i want this is because user "Specialized" actually showed me how to modify the stock intake boot to accept this carb. And a lot of people recommends the PJ carb...

Now it says that it will come calibrated for the CY240 Big Bore, I know mine is not a big bore, however I due have a lot of mods.. So people.. Do you think it will be calibrated for my setup ? The Toomey B1 runs a fairly big jet now on my kit! #310. (I dont wanna go through jetting hell! :) so it could be nice if it is a bolt-on)

Is there any down / upsides I should know? Is another carb better? Should it be bigger? Or this will suit me fine?

SETUP:

Vito stroker crank +3mm
Bored to 68mm with Wiseco forged piston
V-force 3 reed cage
Toomey B1 complete Exhaust kit (filter, jet, 12 vents, etc.)
Head milled .035" and bigger redesigned dome
Mild port (intake and cleanup)
Oil pump disabled/blockoff

Thanks ..

it should be good with that set-up...might be a lil big but its good so you wont have to get another carb later...you know you wont be able to use the same jet in ur stock crab as that 34...

No, that carb wont just bolt up and be ready to go right out of the box no matter what they say. What are they modding it for? Just a Vito's 240 kit and the rest is stock? You dont know. Also, even if they claim it is "jetted" perfect its not. What if they jetted it for a bike at sea level and your at 6500 feet? Jetting will be different. What if when they jetted it the carb was in the ideal conditions and at your house is is 101* outside? It will effect jetting.

You can shave down the stock boot to fit a 34mm PJ. Like you said Specialized 7 did it and so did blasterfreak30.

Also you can get that 34mm PJ for much cheaper on ebay. That carb was used in a lot of different bikes. I just got a 34mm PJ for $85.00 shipped.

Shop around before you buy. Also, as much as they say that it is already tunned there is no such thing and you WILL have to jet it properly.

Blasterboy91:

I know my Toomey jet wont work if thats what you mean ? Mikuni and Keihin dont match....

CC&FAB:

I´ll guess you are right? We dont know what it is tuned for? .. But i then hope at least that 1 of the 5 jets that are coming with it will work!!! So i at least can find the right one with the supplied jets.

the correct procedure is to start with the biggest right ? And work your way down to it is perfectly runing?

But another thing, is the power/ pull very noticeable? Or only a little compared to SAME setup but with stock carb? .

Thanks

I have the 34mm pj, and love it. I really would search ebay or the forum for one that is cheaper. Jets are cheap dont forget that. i would say with your mods you are going to be anywhere from a 145 to a 155.

DJACK12:

I am very happy to hear you love it.. Did you really feel the diffrence? does it pull much harder, a little? or medium ? ..

Also i have bought a 14t front sprocket to go with it when i get it..

I have searched ebay and i can only find one used from 1987! .. Maybe a liiiitle too old for me!

OK just to clear up! .. I have now ordered the PJ 34mm ... However not from Vito´s.. I luckily found a UK reseller.. I live in Sweden so thats perfect..

He claims it comes with a 125 main jet... So i trust and took "DJACK12" advice and have also ordered mainjets in size 155, 150, 145 .... Then i hope i can find one that works perfect..

HOWEVER I DUE HAVE ONE BIG PROBLEM!

The shop say they have this universal throttle cable.. but i dont think it will work for thumb throttle?

SO i need very fast to get a throttlecable that will fit thumb and the PJ...

Hmmm. I thought I had to put a reed spacer in with the PJ so the bowl would clear the clutch arm. Will lassek need one or am I thinkin of a different carb ?

you could use a spacer, but its easier to just bend the shift lever down a little bit make sure it doesn't hang up on the cases, usually the carb will just barely hit so a little bended should clear things up

A PJ carb is a PJ carb. The 1987 one will do you just as good as a 2000 one. I posted in your other thread that Wildcard may ship a cable to the UK.

if you dont want to bend anything on your motor including the clutch arm, just tilt the carb a little away form it. it does not have to sit straight up and down to run right.

as far as the performance i cant really tell what did what because i got so much motor work done at one time. all i know is that is a good carb.

you want your carb vertical, having it tilted is not a good idea, the floats will/could hang up nuff said really. snowmobiles, atv, dirtbike, streetbike all the carbs are vertical

BLASTER HP:

I have actually many times seen a carb not hanging straight ! .. and this is stock setup! .. i agree the logic would be straight.. but for ex. my buddy just bought a 125cc Honda CR125.. and its completly stock with a 36mm TMX Mikuni.. but its hanging tilted not just a little.. but its supposed to sit like that.

I REALLY appreciate your help guys.. this forum is awesome! .. never had answer to so many questions by so many nice people..

The throttlecable AND carb comes from this site:

Allens Performance Mikuni & Keihin Carbs

And he said he will ship a universal throttlecable to my keihin..

But is it a complete ordinary throttlecable for thumbthrottle? It just need to fit in carb ?

34mm pj carbs were a stock carb on all 86-89 trx250R's and on 86 atc250R's they are VERY easy to get.. the idle adjustment on a PJ carb is actually done by twisting the choke knob.. once you get it setup.. you'll like the PJ carb setup.. alot of people don't like them.. reason is they can't tune them..

wait wait wait.. did you see anywhere in my last post that i said they were "HARD TO TUNE" no.. i never said they were.. you took a piece of what i post out of context.. what i said were some people don't like them because they can't tune them.. kiehns are probably one of the most user friendly carbs out there..
