As some of you know I traded a couple dirtbikes for an 04 trx450r with a 480 big kit. I plan on building a WICKED motor for it. I wanted to do this build for two reasons.... First and foremost I wanted the opportunity to rebuild a 4 stroke. And secondly I want to see what these bikes can do. Should I start a thread?

I asked you a stupid question.png

Tuned in.. :) I ask if you can to try and keep tabs on the cost so all can compare to a 2 stroke..

Looks like there will be a thread starting. Instead of starting one in the full rebuild section I will just keep this thread going. I am downloading the app to my phone to resize pics.

Great idea just me. I will keep a running tab going. Pics and info coming soon.

OK so here is the deal. I had $900 dollars invested in 2 bikes I was flipping. I traded those 2 bikes for this. So the tab starts at $900. I just reviewed my eBay account and so far I've spent about $300 in misc parts. I had to order complete rear brake system, bumper, radiator fan, run/kill switch, and a side carb cover. So the tab is now $1200.

Mods it already has are 480cc big bore kit, full Fatboy 4 exhaust, hot cams stage 2 cam, stage 4 long travel elka shocks, gusseted and powder coated frame, baja wheels, RAZR tires, asv levers, k&n filter, cut lid, nerf bars, antivibe steering stem with fat bars, billet shifter, prm swingarm skid plate, Maier plastics, and a gripper seat cover.

The bike has tons of mods so all it really needs is a really nasty motor and better carb. Some of that is already on the way. I bought some stuff off of a 450 forum. I bought 43mm taper bored FCR carb, 3mm stroker crank built by falicon, a used transmission, dasa filter ring, and a shift shaft. That was $425. Tab is now $1,625. (Adding up quick)

The issues with the bike were it didn't have first gear (something wrong in trans), jetting was way off, and decompression lever was not set right. I fixed everything except for first gear and it ran really strong. I have never ridden another 450 so I have nothing to compare it to.

So here are some pics. Tab is at $1,625.

Not sure why they uploaded like that.

So back to business. The plan for motor is the following. 3mm long rod crank, shave and port head, kibblewhite springs, and +1 valves, thinner base gasket, cp 12.5:1 crf piston (custom crank allows this), hot cams stage 2 cam, Fatboy 4 exhaust, 43.5mm taper bored FCR carb, dasa filter ring, and K&N filter.

After this motor is built and broke in it will go to the Dyno for tuning.

nice start mike, you're stacks ahead of the game with what all came with that thing !

only thing i see in the pic above is.....where's the billet clutch basket, thats gonna have gobs of torque, i'd think the big pokers need an upgraded basket too ?

and since the decision has been made to continue this thread, shall i change the title to
Big Bore TRX Rebuild ???

Good call AWK. I will look into it. Your right about all the mods. If I was a person that could leave well enough alone I would have tore the motor down, fixed the trans, and put in a new higher compression piston. Unfortunately I am not that type of person. There is no sense in even setting a budget for this build because I always blow the budget out of the water!

i looked up "over budget" on wikipedia, your picture was beside the definition :)

edit: changed thread name to TRX450R Rebuild, and moving it to full rebuild section
