thumb or twist?

as the bike comes up, or up a steep hill, you can't hang on with your legs as you can on a skinny bike, the only thing to hang onto is the grips, which twist the throttle even further, giving it unwanted gas at all the wrong times
twist throttle ftl <<<<only if you have very good, and paid up to date health insurance

thumb throttles on quads IMO

My son and I own quads with both types of throttle.

For trails and hills where you have to use arms to hang on the thumb throttle shines.

For flat track and speedway where the body is nearly always off the side of the bike, the twist throttle seems much easier to control.

As for Moto cross, I come from a background of two wheelers and prefer the twist throttle, (old habits die hard).
My 14yr old son is in transition with a twist throttle fitted just last week. He says that he likes it, but I have observed the nose of the Blaster a little high coming off of the big jumps.

Word of warning If you change over to a twist throttle, the first time or two you feed it the herbs can take you by surprise.
With a thumb throttle when you give it heaps you have to make a conscious effort to maintain pressure on the lever.
With a twister, the more you give it, the more your body wants to slide to the back of the seat and can cause the wrist to give even more go juice.
I find a way to help unwanted throttle rotation on acceleration is to place two fingers on the front brake lever.

Both throttle configurations have their goods and bad's, try a twister you may like it.

Thumb Throttle all the way! You're putting yourself at greater risk of injury..and in some cases..even death :o Not trying to discourage you but there is a reason they put thumb throttles on quads.

Definately keep your thumb throttle. I had a Banshee with a twist throttle and loved it until I gripped the bars too hard, pulled the throttle wide open, and nearly killed myself. Never again. When I bought my trx450r, it had a twist throttle already installed. I wouldn't do more than putt around the yard until I got around to putting the stock thumb throttle back on.

I had a friend who has a twist throttle and we were in sandlake and his twist got messed up the twist got stuck so his blasty got over revved a lot and he had a pinched wire!!! Thumb throttle is the way to go!!!

This comes up every now and then on here and there nothing wrong with that except this time I have nothing to add you guys covered it all lol
Oh and for a change the OP took the advice wonders never cease.

My lad trialled the twister on the MX track Sunday, and he recons it is the ducks guts and he wants to keep it for racing.

its all personal preferance, the oh shizz reflex is somthing you have to overcome with a twist, cant remember the name of the company that makes a twist that uses the thumb throttle and a small lever to controll the throttle

I was thinking of the twist myself, now I am not so sure. I have not rode in a while, so after a 3-4 hour ride this weekend, my thumb was toast, so I thought about going to the twist to control thumb fatigue, I may keep the thumb throttle now.

You can get a throttle which allows use of both twist, or thumb. Very useful as you can switch between them to suit your situation, and one locks the other out.

They are $$$$$ but will solve the toasted thumb!
