okay so i had a blaster that sat for 4 years and i just got it off my buddy like a month ago and have been tweaking it ever since. I put in a new wiseco piston, cleaned the carb & removed the tors I cant figure out what the problem is, it idles rough and willl only idle for like a minute im premixing amsoil dominator with 89 octane at 32:1 ratio is that possibly the problem???? i cant figure it out and need some advice

yea maybe i will cuz i've tried several different spark plugs and that didnt help at all i tried the b8es, br8es & br9es and dont know which one would be best to use

yeah i had problems with the amsoil dominator, not saying its a bad oil, but just misunderstood, the bottle say's its "heavy on lubricants"
i guess thats why it calls for 50:1, so i emailed amsoil and they confirmed 50:1 for a yamaha blaster, that just goes against what we blaster folks have been doing for years, but i guess technological advancements in the synthetic lubes may have us changing our thinkin soon, i've also heard the new yamalube has been fouling plugs, my favorite and the one i've never had any problems with is "maxima" oils, it'll work for injection and mix, but that still sounds like your havin carb problems???

okay so i took my carb apart and i was running a 220 main jet I found my old carb that was on the quad before hand and it was a 260 jet i put that on and now it will idle with the choke plunger half-way out if I put it all the way in it starts to rev high i tried turning my idle screw by the tors hardware which is removed and i also tried the air screw and no luck any thoughts?????? i also drained my tank and used different oil i think its citgo 2 stroke mixed 40:1 roughly but no richer than 32:1.....

reread your post again, sounds like you definately have an air leak, especially because the choke half in, gets a response, check all possible air intake joints, but could be a crank seal from what i've been readin on here???

below is what i first wrote, gonna leave it in case somthing there helps ya

at least your getting some response, did you clean the new(old) carb, sounds like the float may be sticking?? when no other adjustment will bring the idle down?? or an air leak, get some wd-40 or start fluid and slowly spray around everything air related, if it revs you found it
make sure the slides in the right way, pin and groove line up,and the plug may not matter???, gap it right, just make sure it doesnt have a longer neck/threads so it doesn't stick down in too far and hit the piston, in my old blasty i ran a b9 sumthin, it was supposed to be 1 range hotter??? thats what i was told, but i had that thing in there for years and never fouled or gave me sh*t???

okay well i went back outside and tried to ride it around the yard and it seems like i have no throttle response from the transmission and it is driving itself reving high even with the choke plunger half out

here is a pic of my plug it looks like im running lean to me could that possibly be the problem?

ngk's plug numbers are backwards the higher the number the colder the plug the lower the number the hotter the plug so the b9 is one step colder than the stock b8

did you put in the new idle screw and adjust that
p.s---try klotz benol sh*t smells and performs awesome wont run anything else

well the plug i took the picture of is a br8es and yea i tried playing with the idle before i thought my engine was going to blow aslo it has a ticking noise when it idles low but as soon as it gets to a higher rpm it stop anyone got any clues?

when you give it throttle do the rev's seem to stay high for a few seconds then drop? if so your running too lean. thats what it sounds like choke = less air more fuel. hence for easy starting :P just like a primer in a way

and the ticking nose is the famous yamaha wristpin tick, every air cooled yamaha ive ever had has done it, my pw 50, 80 my dt 50 my dt 100 my blaster, they all do it.

are you still running 89 octane gas? if you are that can also make it idle alot higher (89 burns faster then 98) and could also cause it to knock which can lead to failure. all blaster do make a tapping sound like they said before thats just a yamaha.

just a thought on that plug, b"r" 8es or whatever, that R might mean resistor???? and might not work for our bikes??? and thanx 98 for clearing up that 8,9 colder deal for me

bit of a long shot but have you took your petcock out of your gastank and cleaned it good? also check your rubber boots for cracks. the revving itself up sounds like a air leak someplace.

yea I took my petcock off yesterday and I just woke up today to find a HUGE ASS puddle of gas on my garage floor now i need a gasket for the grrrrrrrr.... oh and yea I was running 89 but now its all over the floor so i guess i will try like some 92 or 93 octane, but would the air leak be before or after the carb cuz i know im missing one of those clamps that goes around the carb to hold the boot on but its missing the airbox side so it shouldnt affect it right???
