My blaster had been running a little off the last few rides and was a little hard to start. I figured it was because it was jetted way rich from the winter ( it's a stock motor with no lid, v force reeds, K & N, fmf sst pipe and a 320 jet ). I stuck a 300 jet in and it ran great but I had to pull start it to get it going the other day. Once it started it seemed to run ok but not 100 percent. I figured it was because I had it in some deep water a few times. Well, I went to start it yesterday and it wouldn't start. I put in some fresh mix ( 32 : 1 ) checked for fire and put in a fresh plug. I don't have a compression tester but it kicked over waaay to easy. My buddy came over and we pulled the head and jug and the rings were all gummed up and stuck. The cyl looked great. We cleaned the piston lands and rings, and put everything back together using the same gaskets ( we didn't remove intake or reeds ) and she fires right up and runs like a champ ! I guess I should've jetted the carb down a long time ago. Luckily I seem to have gotten off without spending a dime knock on wood.

Klotz at 32:1 . The rings and lands were covered in black stuff . Yes we cleaned out the ring grooves along with the rings themselves. I think it was because I had it jetted to fat and didn't really run the blaster too hard, I kind of just puttered it around . The blaster seems to be back to normal.

I've had this happen to a couple a drag weed wacker motors over the last 20 years. It's certainly baffling and frustrating. Like you know it ran when you parked it and it still has spark, air and fuel haha
I love Klotz to death and will continue to run it but if your running benol or supertechniplate that can happen from the caster bean oil that it's formulated with, more so with benol.
This is the reason it says on the container not to use it as an after run oil.
FWIW next time turn the gas off and let it run out of gas before storage.

If you jet a castor blend oil rich you have to be prepared to fang it. Castor blends are definatley not for little old ladies shopping trips. Another thing to take in is that the castor premix is not the best at being stored, it goes off very quickly. I only mix up 2.5 litres at a time and what is not used at the race meeting gets to kill the weeds. I run 25;1 and the throttle is mostly full on.

theres your problem........KLOTZ, way too rich
heres what ken and i found after running 2 bottles of that super thechni-garbage thru my bike last year, carboned so bad, ken couldnt remove it, even with chemicals made to do so
it was a nice $125 lesson................

i have to admit, i do, do alot of just putting around when alone exploring the mountain and looking for deer
i doubt i'm jetted rich..have never fouled a plug, and she hardly smokes after warm-up
my piston to cylinder clearence is spot on ?????
SUPER TECHNI GARBAGE for the loss, hahahahaaaa

i dont plan to do much losing with this new motor.. hahaha OH SNAP :D :p

i ran 2 bottles thru, before, during and after busco last year, a routine compression check showed a 20lb loss, thats what i found,
i'll pull my top end here soon for a re-ring, and we'll see what maxima shows,
same exact set-up

edit............

i can already tell you how thats going to go lol, there will be far less buildup from the maxima and u will be here telling us all about it, probally with pics :). like i said i have run both, there is no getting around it, benol is some sticky sh*t but with all the high speed riding we do around here it gets cleaned out and i have had no problems.. my topend was is great shape when i pulled it to ship to scotj77, had 2 hard seasons on it and just a tiny bit of blowby and the usual amount of carbon buildup.

lol yes i do enjoy a good setup, especially if i can drop a RAD valve comment hahahah
