Well slight problem with the Blaster not sure wtf it is but it seems to run good, ill do a comp test on it tomorrow.
Anyways buddy just got his 440 kit on his honda so we were racing up and down the gravel road and all the sudden my blaster starts shootin sparks out the exhaust?
i have no idea what it was, so i turned it off for a min or 2 then drove home and it never did it again?
what could this be?
packing in the exhaust?
piston rings frying?
i looked at the plug it looked fine no metal shavings or anything like that on it.
any ideas?
it did look pretty damn cool.
oh ya and that 440 is pretty much even with the 240, out of the corners he pulls but i catch up and pass him pretty quick

im also wondering if it could be carbon build up as i rejetted it recently and havent ridden it hard until tonite. it was pretty rich before so maybe that was all it was doing?

Is your packing steel wool? that could be it burning up, but you got to get it really hot to burn. Other possibility is, are you running a spark arrester on the muffler. Was more common when motor oils were used for mixing in the fuel and the ash of the oil would spark and start fires behind you as you rode. so I was told. other than that IDK

I would be curious to know what this is too with the sparks. I just got an 04 blaster tonight. It was dark but I could definitely see smoke but couldn't tell what color it was. It has a pro circuit pipe and v force reeds and has been jetted and the airbox lid has been removed. I noticed oil at base of cylinder head and by the reeds. Anyway seemed to run pretty well but when I got off it and was waiting for the fuel to run out in the carb I noticed sparks coming out of the exhaust when I was reving it. When it stopped running it smelled like it was burning something and seemed pretty hot. The guy I bought it from said the oiler wasn't working right and he premixed some oil in the gas tank and it probably is running a little to lean and just add a little oil idk. I hope I didn't burn up the engine.

Adding oil to the fuel will make the Air fuel mixture lean and create excessive heat, if you add oil to the fuel it is advisable to re jet to compensate!
Thank you Blaaster sir! I got to look at it better today in the light lol. Quite a bit of oil leaks from the exhaust on both ends. Also it looks like it is leaking by the reeds. Does that red permatex silicone gasket maker work pretty good for the seals? I tried adding a little straight gas into the tank and it was a little better. I didn't run it for long though. Checked the plug but definitely running rich (very black) I ordered a dynojet kit for it and I would like to find what works best on all the possible air leaks, so if you have any suggestions for that I would really apreciate it. All in all seems like good compression and starts right up. I think I'm just going to get an oiler block off kit and get rid of the gas in the tank now and start from scratch to see how she runs.

Thanks again Blaaster

It is advisable to keep the oil injection, they are very reliable!
The injection system may need bleeding.

A word on jet kits, they seldom contain the correct size jets, it is a much better idea to buy genuine jets.

The reed block and carb boot must not be tightened up more than 5.8ft lbs otherwise the assembly will warp and create an air leak!

My preference for stemming air leaks is High temp Copper RTV.

You should perform a leak test.

I would take off the tank and dump that gas out and mix a new batch so you know the ratio. Just adding oil cause you think it needs it or adding straight fuel, you have no way to tell what ratio you are running.

I think your right Blaaster the oil injection needs to be bled. The previous owner may have ran the oil tank empty or something idk hopefully he didn't. I'm trying to find a bleeder screw or something or maybe you have to loosen one of the lines idk. I'm going to look for a shop manual online. And Jeff Bennett thanks for the advice that's what I did I just drained everything and started over. I didn't get to do a leak test yet though. But you can clearly see oil at base of reed cage and out of exhaust port. That may be causing oil injection not to work right either.

My only other question is can you use the oil injection if you bore it out or get a big bore kit? Will the oil injection still work properly or is it made just to work with the stock engine?

OK I found the service repair manual right here on this forum! SWEEET! So I know how to bleed the oil injection now. My guess is that is all that is wrong with it, unless the worm gear or something is broke but I doubt it. My guess is when he pulled a wheelie and bent the grab bar up to the sky it was enough to mess up the oiler.

Thanks again guys!

The oil injection can be used with a BBK, but you will need to use the stock carb.

Often when folks go BBK the advance to a large carb which is not equipped with the oiler facility so they then pre mix the fuel at 32:1.
