If I ever need reverse, I use my feet to move my front wheels backwards while sitting on my quad. It works good unless your on a hill or in mud.

if your stuck on a trail and you need to back up just lean forward and hold the front brake and move ur weight to either the left or right and you will spin it around it worksI:I
