i have a 2003 blaster with vito 240 kit, fmf exhaust,a home made snorkel kit, and many other addtns. since putting the big bore on, i keep breaking reeds(within 2 rides)........ anyone have any idea why? I have been using boyesen power reeds. should i put the stock reed flex limiter plates back on? never had this prob with boyesens before.

no carbon, just regular power reeds, big one with holes in on bottom, smaller ones(lighter ones )on top. breaks lighter one near the bottom, and cracked the heavy one on the end.....

boyesens come with a little metal strip that holds the reeds down. stock reeds have big metal plates that curve out from the reeds like wings and stop the reeds from flexing to far

thought maybe the big bore needs more air, reeds can't take it, or flex too much,.... no idea, never experienced this before with anything.

also, since putting on the bb kit, can't keep clutch from slipping... got new ebc clutch pack, + heavy duty barrnett springs,...still slips

I think some how you put the clutch back together wrong. I would double check that the plates and discs are in the right order and you have the cover lined up properly. I did it one day myself when i was in a hurry. It wouldn't slip on low end but from mid to top or when i got on the throttle it would slip. I pulled it apart and realized i had the wave ring on opposite side of the clutch.

well i asked the local dealerships' mechanic about the reeds. he said the big bore makes too much crankcase pressure, causing the reeds to break. he said a reed spacer should fix the problem, i've got one on the way.
