how many times can you re-ring a piston before you have to replace the piston and or bore to the next size. any opinions from any body else would be great. i was just thinking about this today and was curious as to what other people thought about it.-Ryan

How many times can you replace the rings? well if the bore and everything is tight like the ring grooves and specs. Then there really is no number on this. Usually when the rings need replaced it probably needs bored but not always. The pistons go up in increments of .10 and .80 over is the max wiseco makes I believe. So you could go like 8 times from just normal wear. Usually if something breaks .10 may not be enough fix it.

should replace the piston/rings and have ot honed/bored everytime. putting just rings in even if the cylinder looks great will work, but wont last very long because the new rings have to have a new cylinder surface to seat tightly to, because no rings are exactly the same even if there the same brand/size. just my thaughts

no prablem, i didnt know that about a 240 i thaught the sleeve had about the same thickness as a stock one

i did some checking and it looks like it can only be bored out 2 times. i can only find rings and pistons for sizes: std 72mm,(.020)72.50mm, and (.040)73mm. but i guess i could be wrong.

would a vitos piston work in any big bore kit because the top of the piston on the exhaust side of piston has that dish shape in it. would it effect how it runs in another 240 big bore engine???
