Project Deathblast

Most paint chipping problems stem from poor surface preparation.

If paint is applied over other paint, the surface must be abraded all over to provide a key for the fresh paint.

If you use a second or third coat, the surface should be abraded between each coat, unless you are using the wet on wet method.

Adding extra coats of paint can cause worse chipping because the paint coat is thicker, therefore less flexible :) .

Hey man welcome, i saw that bike on craigslsit the other day! Do you ride at 41st??? Or 8st?? Nice to have another member that lives in miami!
Yeah man I ride at both. I live behind tamiami so I also ride the farm roads behind my neighborhood a lot. It'll prob be about 2 weeks till the bike is ready to go. Mostly just the wait for parts. That's really the only reason I decided to strip it down. But I'm glad I did! Found a bunch of things that need replacement or are missing all together. Swing ARM bearings rusted rear motor mount bolt gone, no A-arm bushings or caps, ball joint boots, sprockets totally worn out, chain master link clip missing and link frozen in there so I had to cut it off etc....I'll see u out there soon though.

Got some more work done over the holiday/my birthday weekend. Finished priming and painting about 95% of the bike. Just have the rear fenders and handle bar clamps left to do. Got my motor back from the shop with a fresh port job and recieved a bunch of new parts in the mail. I'm still waiting on a few key items before I can start final assembly. Then it's on to the plug choppin'...

Here's a sneak peak:

Well "Deathblast" is all put back together! All new bushings, bearings, caps, seals, ball bearing chain rollers, Bars, Grips, controls, cables, brakes, clutch, wiring harness etc... It was getting around 105lbs of compression when I got it so i took the jug off to inspect. The bore looked fantastic! And as it turns out it already had a 67.5mm Weisco pro-lite in it! So that made me happy. All I had to do was slap in some new rings and I now have a very solid 130lbs of compression. I replaced all of the oil seals and gaskets throughout the engine, installed a 28mm Mikuni TM Flat slide, FMF Fatty w/ TC 2 silencer, air box lid is off with an uni filter. Where do you think I should start jetting wise? As of right now I put a 32.5 pilot and a 300 main just to be safe and have a crap load more to chose from since I'm almost positive I'll have to lean it out some once I put it through it's heat cycles and do my plug chops. I'm going to make myself an air leak tester today and perform a leakdown test I'll post pics and results later today when I get home.

Jeep, you're very close with those jetting specs. It will be plenty safe when you go to fire her up for the first time. I have a feeling the 32.5 pilot won't need to be changed, and you'll wind up with somewhere around a 280 main jet in the end. If the carb doesn't cooperate with the Blaster's engine after some tuning, you may need to swap in a different needle to get it to behave. My .02.

Thanks braaaptor, that puts my mind at ease. Well it took me Damn near all afternoon to track down a low pressure air gauge to make a leak tester. Went to home depot, lowes, harbor freight, and then finally found something usable at northern tools. By the time I was done it was already time for me to pick up my son from school. Hopefully I'll get out of school early tomorrow and have time to check it.

Did the leak test today....wouldn't hold ANY pressure! Turns out there's a hole in the stator side of the case in the crankcase! Looks like I'll be searching for a case half....

You can attempt to repair it with brazing rods from harbor freight, there under 10 bucks worth a shot atleast. Or sicivicsdude is a member on here a a magician at welding these cases send it to him and im sure he will do a great job on it.

Good recomendation for doing a leak down test, just think what may have happened and it started and you tried to ride it.

Sucks jeep, good to hear u almost got the blaster ready to go.. When you finish her up good lets set something up.. I dont have school for the next two weeks.... IM finishing up my bike too, just need to order my piston and send the cylinder to tommy cycle (dont know if you ever heard of them) to get the cylinder honed. Who ported your cylinder?? Ill stay tuned in.. Joey.

I orded the cases already. They should be here this week sometime along with new seals and bearings. Never heard of tommy cycle. A good friend of my cousin does custom porting for fun so he hooked me up. I'm off of school myself so I'm especially pissed that I have to wait even longer to get riding. We'll get something going soon, maybe next weekend. Oh and my cousin just traded his KX 125 for a 2004 blaster. All that thing needs is a new clutch and an air filter and it's good to go.
