just finished making some jetting runs on my blaster. i just took the airbox lid off and put on the fmf pipe. went from a 230 to a 290 jet. here is what the plug looks like. looks pretty spot on which will leave me a little rich when it warms back up. fine with me if it as long as it doesn't bog. here are some pics. lemme know what you think.

i lke 'em a little darker, my plugs not my women, hahahaaaa
but a 290 should be fine, check it again after a good ride, color on the insulator rarely shows after a few runs, it's the smoke ring down inside there that counts, get a flashlight and magnifyin glass, or cut the threads off for a true reading

heres the chart, but the smoke ring is where it's at

mine looks like the like 11-14 range so i should be good to go. i was thinkin a little darker too but i figure that when it warms up and i do the majority of my riding it will be a lil richer anyway. and i didnt just do straight up WOT runs i warmed up on the old plug then put the new one in and rode over into the field and did a lil 10 minute ride and came back and checked. figured that would check my overall jetting. still have this plug out though. i pulled it out and it was hot so i dropped it and it closed the gap up. i will regap and use it later but was too lazy to do it now lol

no, no, no doing a little ride in all the throttle ranges will only tell you what the richest range color is, as it will color the plug dark
so you could be rich on the pilot, and lean everywhere else, but thats the color the plug is gonna show, once it's colored dark, the mid(needle) or wot(main) are not gonna remove that color
what you just did is a classic plug chop mistake
you can do plug chops on all 3 throttle ranges,
pilot 1/4, needle 1/4 - 3/4 and main 3/4 - wot, but thats the only range it can be operated in during the 1 thru 6th gear run, then stop and read the plug, riding it back to the garage will falsify the reading
re-read "how to do plug chops"
but i still say you should be good with that main, the needle and pilot do mot need touched

will it really make enough of a difference when its warm to make it bog? both of you said that you would go a size bigger right now but i dont do a whole lot of winter riding. just a lil here and there. but if u think i could probably go a little bigger wouldn't that probably make me be fine in the summer? only time will tell and if it bogs i will put the 280 in but i was thinking this one would still work fine??

also i don't have room to make it to 6th even if i was to make a proper run. even if i make it to 5th i never make it to the top end of it so idk how i would do a proper run. but i agree with you i can't see this size main jet being lean with my mods. i know and i don't have a airleak

u can do a plug chop running it balls out in 3rd or 4th gear if u dont have the roomto do 6th gear

just run it, you're close enuf to me elevation and temp wise, the 290 will be fine, you may find yourself goin down as far as a 270 in the summer, then back up again for this weather
we were just tryin to get you to understand a true plug chop, if not done the correct way and read the smoke ring, all your doin is practicing changing plugs

okay sounds good. you think i will have to go down in the summer? i figured that if you said it could stand to be a little darker that it would still be fine in the summer? or does it really make that big of a difference? i guess i will find out lol. if it bogs in the summer ill drop the jet back down to a 280
