Hello Everyone . Im pretty new to this and Ive found myself in big trouble. I have an 02 blaster i just bought a month ago. It was sitting outside for a year in chicago. Wasnt running, cleaned carb changed needle and seat and rebuilt. Ran okay but got choppy and sputtered in the highr rpms/speeds. I figured it was the tors system so I bought an eliminator kit from vitos also fmf full exhaust, Dynojet stage 1, boyeson power reeds, and reed spacer. Something went wrong now idles rough kinda backfires and if you touch the thottle , the rpms just soar uncontrollably. Please share your insight cause Im stumped. The idle screw vitos gave me seems to do nothing. I dont want to blow this thing up . Please HELP! Thanx

DID U grind down the nub where the new idle screw goes? that screw makes contact with the slide and pushes it up for higher idle..u must do this!!!!! and i think maybe ur throttle cable is too tight.

yes I did grind down the nub, the opposite side of the one thats threaded.
tapped out and installed, no matter if I run it in or out it does not change anything.
after I installed and 1st started before all of this, had no idle, but ran ok if I kept it running by burping throttle, when I adjusted the cable... I know the wrong way... the throttle released but reved high, was able to shut off w/ key,
but the second time round scared me and rpm shot through the roof! key did nothing, grabbed tube from back of carb and sqeezed. phew! off

The jet size in there now is a 230 from the stock 220, the rod was set on the second groove for above 5000 ft. from factory, the kit says to install on the third groove for below 5000 ft. which illinos would be... should I of just left it?
or do what it says? and for the idle screw, there is a big slot on piston, this is were the idle screw goes through on there, I even said, "how is this going to do anything".
the other side has a groove in piston looks only to fit one way.
and thanks for the replies hope what I said is more help???
and forget the hot part, no overheating happening

stock is 230 man, i checked mine when i got it, get 250-270, ur lean, and ur throttle needs adjustment, and sounds like you have an airleak, check these get back to us

ok my mistake, the jet stock is 230, but kit says to put in 220, going to install the jet, but, why does the idle screw do nothing?

this is what I want to know...

look on fmf web site, they reccomend a 270 main... and if its still revving way up like others said, air leak or throttle cable

Defiantly a bigger jet I'm running a 330 with stock bore and carb. Air leak is a good bet too.
The idle neddle should come in and stop the slide from going down, turn in screw pushes slide up, higher idle. You said your neddle goes into a grove in the slide?

my jet kit is stage 1 an 2 by dynojet, 200,210,220,230,340,350,360 are the jets I have, may need to go shopping tomorrow. I have the carb on the bench now.

When it was on the quad, took a look at the idle screw w the new cable an cap in place,

now if I removed the stopper nut it moved the piston nicely up and down,
w/ the nut in place, it moves but you can't blink, I may have to grind the nub down 1/16 inch more, about how thick the nut is.
what about those options on those jets? go shopping?

hell yeah, 270-300, thats where i would start.

you have to be running rich as hell man, damn that sounds really high for the little mods you are running. take a pic of ur spark plug i am curious, you haven't been fouling plugs

Thanxs for the input guys ! I am going shopping for jets this morning and I will keep you posted

Haven't fouled a plug yet and has no bog effect, from to much fuel, either. I was running a 300 and after I put the stator plate in it seemed to want more. I went to the local dealer and they didn't have anything between 300 - 330. She is running strong and lately I've been riding at a track rather than the woods so there is alot more WOT going on. BTW my clip is on the second slot from the bottom with a stock pilot. Starts first kick and idles great.
I'll pull the plug sometime this weekend.

I installed a 280 jet.
now it runs, but it bogs, if I turn mixture screw out a half a turn from closed position, it idles good, if I turn out to 1 and 1/2 it bogs and wont idle, thats w/ rear air tube removed from carb, did this when adjusting cable, kept eye on piston so I wasn't using the cable for an idle adjustment.
Going to go to a 270 jet, figure im right there,
no air leaks present, used carb clean and the WD40 method, no change in idle at all.

check your pilot jet, sounds like it could be plugged up or way to small.. it should run fine with that main jet in it maybe a lil rich but you wont notice any diffrence
