So IN the last 2 weeks I have purchased a 01 warrior with 50 hours(not sure how you prove that but the quad is in great shape and I will be picking up a 99 blaster tomorrow. so why at the age of 46 did I decide that I wanted to roll out on the trails and hit the mud, well I have a 15 year old son and this is what he wanted to get into so I am all for getting away from the xbox. So is there a place for recommended upgrades for the blaster this is a stock unit. We will not be racing in any formal arena. mostly trail riding i suspect. I did read a recommendation to put the front wheel rims inside out. I am a big stocky guy so how durable is the blaster thanks in advance.

welcome to BF bro !
huge kudo's for trying to get them off the game's !!!!
lets get the blasty and see what it already has done, then go from there
like stated, do some reading in each subsection, especially the sticky's at the top of each, the DIY section is pretty good too, as is using the search button at the top of every page, most topics will bring tons of results, look at the mods alot of us have done, so you can arm yourself with specific questions about specific topics and we'll be right here firing away with answers

physically the blasters are well stout enuf to handle any size adult, but there are plenty of mods to make it more user freindly and powerful

and we have a house rule.....pics of the quads, or it didn't happen, LOL

So im guessing the warrior for you and the blaster for the kid? It's good to see someone getting their kid off the xbox and off the couch. When my kids gets that age I hope she wants to ride too.

Well here you go with the pictures of the blaster it comes with riding boots, clymers manual, 1 gallon of oil for oil change.

I know it sounds odd but My son will be riding the warrior and I the blaster. For some reason after riding both quads I feel safer with him on the Warrior

that blaster is in amazingly good shape....good score !!!

where are you located that they stay in that good of condition ???

I am in Central Illinois the guy that had this bought it from his brother inlaw in 2000 who had bought it new in 99. He just appears to take good care of things I always like when you buy something and the owner hands you the clymers manual. I am giving $800 which I have been told is top money but the bike appears to be in exceptional condition. Also is there any truth to the flipping the rims on the front tire?

Welcome to the forum fellow old timer!!! your story sound oddly familiar! lol yes, you Can turn the rims around to widen the stance a bit. only thing is to make sure the valve stem doesn't rub on anything like the brakes. good looking bike man!!!!

Hey welcome. Me too. I bought a Blaster because I liked my son's.
Be careful with some of the suggestions here, some of us go overboard.
If you are new to ATVs better to stick with the stock power and reliability.

I am 5'11" and 205 lbs and do quite well on my Blaster with one ergonomic upgrade.
I raised the steering stem 3" by cutting it and welding 5" of slightly larger tubing over it.
A stock Banshee steering stem will raise the bars as well.
If you raise it with over 1"spacers or a tall bar bend it tends to be weak.

A better rear shock will take some of the bounce out. Look up LTZ400 shock mod.

Buy good quality 2 stroke oil, worth the money. Cheap stuff will cost you engine repairs.

Ride with your weight on your feet, not your butt. Makes it more stable.
Especially on corners, put all your weight on the inside footpeg and lean into it.

Oh, and have fun! Those are my tips, from one over 40 solo dad to another.

Glad to hear from you! I think you made a good choice.

Very nice shape! I paid 800 for my 93, :( you got hooked up! Or I got ripped ff, either way, welcome!

Good looking Blaster, eight hundred for a blaster in that good of shape is a good deal. Not to sure about the extra gallon of oil for oil changes unless you are talking about the clutch and transmission oil. Looks like you are running the oil injection still so just make sure the oil tank under the seat is full of a good two stroke injection oil. That is where the motor gets its lubrication from. Enjoy riding with your son. The best times I have had with my son is riding behind him and watching his skills develop. Good times for sure.

So I picked the blaster up today and found out some additional info, now to me I am a duck out of water but some of you may understand. It has an Wesco piston and Rings alond with a Wesco Reed(?),The rear tires are Maxxis by Razor. Came with a gallon of 2 stroke oil, a quarts of gear lube, a pair of riding boots, a can of chain lube and a used Large helmet. 1st Kick Start is does have a rear grab handle which I guess I did not notice or realize. My son and I are headed out tomorrow morning for the maiden voyage. By the way does anyone hear use Seafoam>

Do not use seafoam in your blaster, it will lean it out and run hotter.

Many people think that seafoam is basically kerosene.

I do not recommend the use of it.

looks like you scored a nice blaster at a good price!
you might want to remove the oil injection and just premix your oil with your gas, I've seen a few problems with the oil injection before, just my advice!
cheers!

I respectfully suggest leaving the oil injection as is.
As long as you keep it filled with the right oil and the lines on it you will have no problems.
A lot of other issues get blamed on the oil injection, but I have used oil injection on sleds and bikes and seadoos for 35 years and never had a problem.

Well Maiden voyager today went well, Lesson # 1 for a 45 year old fat man ATVing is definetly and atheletic sport, and 104 degrees does not help. We had a blast(no pun intended). Any of you guys live here in Illinois? I live in Pekin and might want to make a couple of modifications, having someone around that has some experieince with these would be great.
