New Blaster Owner

Ok, found the bulk of the oil leak, stripped drain plug. Its also leaking a lil from the shifter shaft. Is the oil seal for the shifter supposed to be on the outside of the case like the sprocket or internal? All the diagrams I found dont show where it is, just the order everything goes on the shaft. If the seal is external, its missing. Its a really slow leak there so im assuming its internal. Thanks again. I searched the forum and found out its an external seal and the drywall screw trick. Thanks guys!!

Nothing that I know of has been done to the engine, as far as mods. It has a FMF Fatty Gold Series pipe and FMF silencer. He said they premix the gas, but when i asked if it had an oil block off kit he didnt know. Air filter needs replaced, what is the best filter for blasters? Also the carb was rebuilt in Aug of this year.

And yes I do have the mod bug, I bought this to fix and resell just for the money, but its too fun to get rid of haha. I was hooked on the test ride!

Hey man welcome ;-) as far as filters go i personally would say UNI filter, also i have used k&n! You should also look at taking the lid off or drilling it or even better a CFM air box!

shift shaft seal is external, remove shifter, tape over splines to protect new seal from cuts, grease and push new one on/in

you should check into that, either with a block off plate or at least removing the white plastic gear, running that pump dry could be hazordous
search and follow the DIYs for proper removal

It was happy to see me, it was in the garage all night haha.... Yeah I checked today, it has the stop plate installed... Got it, Ill make sure I tape the splines... Thanks guys

You mean leaving the air box lid off or drilling extra vent holes in it?

Yes and yes! if you do that you will get better air flow also check your jetting! Is your jetting standard at the moment? Standard is 230 main jet 32.5 pilot jet needle middle clip

Hey man I thought you said it had a FMF exhaust? As far as i can see it looks stanard bro, standard jetting should be fine for that pipe!

If your knowledgeable on two stroke jetting, you could know, surging, or high idling, Hangging rpm's is a classic example. But just knowing it's leaking isn't gonna fix it- have to find out where!

Hanging rpm's? do u mean like after hitting throttle it idles down but not all the way? like hangs at a lil higher rpm but than comes back down to normal? mine does that.... i know i know. i need to leak test it... lots goin on lately. im gnna order one this week... but does tht mean i have a leak.. ? otherwise this thing runs GREAT!! like way more power than i ever expected. just hangs up on the idle every now and again. ,,,,shld i not have posted my prob with someone els's post? ? ? also i need to figure what exactly is in this thing.. when i bought it guy said stock bore just new weisco piston.. ive rode many blasters and this thing is waaaaaaaay to pepy.. i dont want to tare it apart though to find out.. . ill start a new thread.. srry man for jumpin in on ur's.

Sometimes just a little air leak can fool a person that everything is fine because it rips.

A motor running a little on the lean side will perform much better, but not for long.

I implore you to leak test the motor before you do too much more riding, it may save you a lot of dollars, and if I am wrong at least you will have peace of mind that it is leak free.

Leanness caused by even a little air leak will cause a piston to slowly but surely fry.

It would pay to do a plug chop!

It is possible it has an air leak! But that can also mean a lean pilot jet also!

thanks guys,, most apreciated,, Slick do you have any leak testers available? if so pm me please. thanx.

The label on the silencer is worn most of the way off, but u can tell it says FMF and the pipe has the metal tag that says FMF Fatty Gold Series

After i do the leak down test and get the leaking tranny fluid fixed... If its running great should I still bust open the carb and check out the jetting or just wait til I "have" to open er up? When I test drove it everything seemed to be great. If it burns through some plugs then I know I'll have to check it out.

check them pilot/main jets and needle clip setting.

Since ya have the carb off to do the leak test, ya should remove the bowl and see what is in there just so you know for piece of mind and troubleshooting!
