Got some really good photos at the track the other day. Plus, I had got the 450r shocks, and I'm just now fine tuning them. They are a little stiff, but they land 100 times better than those junk stock shocks. I recommend these shocks to anyone who is lookin for a cheap upgrade for a 400ex.

450r shock make that much of a difference on a 400ex? cuz on my 450 ive done millions of adjustments and im still bottoming them megga hard..maybe the angles are different on the 400..quite interested to find out..im grabbing some lt elkas or pep soon when i get my lt a arms in.. so i guess you have a full set of back ups ready when u are haha

They make a huge difference on the 400ex, the reason being is because mine were race built (cant think of the shop off hand) I picked them up from a guy of atvriders for $180 shipped. damn good price. I had to adjust my preload though cause it was kinda bouncy the way they were set up for a 450r...

but they have the single rate oem spring on em? even with updated valving they should still clap out the same? idk its late and im tired that could be the issue haha

Remember though, anything is better than air shocks. another thing yours might be doing is leaking....unless they are rebuilt, send it to a place called GTT (GT Thunder), they re-valve and install triple rate springs i think around $600 for both. Thats my next step after i get an axle. (;

Thanks Gibson and Rice. I don't get much air cause like I said, I am still fine tuning them to my liking. Pre-load on them is what im fighting right now. bouncy.....

Positive, when I bought them, they were fresh from the Suspension builder. cant think of who did it. But thanks for the info, i have my preload set 6 threads from the top.....seems good, i guess, dont know too much on suspension.

if the shocks are set for your weight the preload is more to set the ride height. u use the compression dial/screw for stiffness and the rebound controls how fast they spring back. If u have these settings available on the shock...i have no idea on stock 450r shocka

Yes, they have everything Elkas or other competitor aftermarket shocks, they are set for 185 rider, and when im fully dressed in my gear, I weigh like 192 or 193...

Anything I can do with my rear shock? Its stock 400ex....it buckles up real bad on whoops....

does the 400ex run a linkage rear end? if id does it's probably like the 450r, the only way to stop it from bucking is the get a aftermarket linkage....

The stock rear shocks has preload, compression, and rebound adjustments. It does have a linkage, but really, what does that solve?

a linkage changes the bottom mounting location of the shock..
when I had the stock linkage on my 450r, I could only dream about pinning it through the whoops and just skimming them.. I tried it once and I ended up going over the bars.. lol

with the aftermarket linkage I can pin it through anything and it will never even try to kick...

but I would just try slowing you rebound down... that might be the problem..
