i just bought a new used motor that looks like it has been rebuilt, no carbon . in cylinder no gouges in cylinder and first over size piston. my question is, when i turn the kick start by hand the crank bearings make a noise, not a grinding noise but i cant describe it alomost a whirring i guess but not really. do new bearing make noise or no... help would be appreciated thanks!

the piston and cylinder/head is off. it sounds like its coming from the main bearings. i hear it when i turn the kickstart or connecting rod by hand... maybe there new bearings and need broken in?? :-/

Has the engine been ran since the rebuild?did you get receipts for the work from the previous owner?I have bought used rebuilt engines but I demand receipts for the alleged work too many liars.it sounds like it could be crank bearrings or the rod.try adding a little oil to them and see if they quiet down.is there any play in lower end excessive play in the rods side to side or up and down?

Good bearings should be nice and smooth, but might make a bit of noise, especially if dry. Do you have it apart to the point where you can move the crank by pushing up and down with the rod by hand? It should FEEL smooth.

I have one with bad bearings that I need to rebuild. Turning the crank with the rod I can feel the roughness. It sounded like a flippin sewing machine when running.
