I have a 1998 Yamaha Blaster that runs perfectly, but is leaking some fluid from somewhere. It really looks like it is leaking from a seal near the gear shift, but my dad is convinced it is just running rich and has overflow. I am planning on installing the oil injection block off kit so while Im working on it I would like to go ahead and fix this if needed too. Any ideas what this leak could be?

there are various rubber seals in the engine and i wouldnt be surprised if there is one for the shifter. the bummer is you will probally have to split the cases to change it. do you have to fill your tranny oil before you ride? if so then its definately your tranny oil leeking out. your dad sounds funny. lol if it was running rich it would just smoke more. do you premix?

there is a seal around the gear shifter, you should be able to replace this without splitting the cases.

I havent been filling it up, but then again I have only ridden it like 4 times now. I think he was meaning the pump was putting too much oil in and the engine was overflowing. Not yet, I am planning to put the oil injection block off kit on. Any more ideas would be greatly appreciated.

YES u pull of the shift lever and u should be able to get it out..the tap new one in..or u can remove clutch cover and pull the shift shaft completly out..would be alot easier..then remove old seal with a pick and tap new one in, i think it easiest to find a complete seal kit..call vitos perforamnce or RJATV..it could be the carb leaking..there is a over flow on it and tend to leak ay times..especially when u ride wheelies..i guess the question is....is it oilly or is it gas? should be a very noticeable difference..their is a lil sight glass right behind the rear break petal on the engine case...look to check if it is full..and keep an eye on it..hope this helps

or you can order part number 93101-12173-00 for a local Yamaha Dealer for less than $5.

you could get away with just buying the seal you need from yamaha but like you said for another 20$ youll have all the seals in the engine, including crank seals, so it might not be bad to have the extras laying around for when you do need them
