Hey guys!

I just picked up a 1995 KX 125 tonight.
It starts right up but theres a few issues I'd like to get your input on.

1. The clutch cable is unhooked. The kid said that he rolls it while its running, then jumps on and kicks it into gear. And then just shifts without the cutch. 8-|. He said that the cable seemed to be functioning fine, and that the clutches and springs seemed fine. But when everythings hooked up, the clutch dont work. Now I didnt look at the bike yet, I wont do that untill tomorrow. What would cause the clutch not to work if everything is in good shape?

2. Also, the bike seems to lack power. He said he pulled the cylinder and said that the piston ring gap was facing towards the exhaust port and that it should be facing the carb. And he thinks thats why it lacks powerband. Dont ask why he didnt fix it if he had it apart that far, but he didnt. If this is true, would this cause the bike to bog instead of hit powerband?

Like I said, I'm going to mess with it tomorrow afternoon. But it would be nice to get your input!
Thanks guys!

1. The clutch cable either needs to be adjusted or replaced or the clutch is shot.

2. The locater pin might have fallen out, in that case the ring would have caught in the port and boom. The ring could be put in upside down as well if its a single ringed (dykes ring, has an L shape) piston, causing low compression. The top end might just need to be freshened up as well.

My guess is this kid has royally f-ed up on the bike some where, its gonna take some trouble shooting and time to get it back to pristine condition.

the clutch could be out of adjustment, but you'll have to try it to be sure

check the compression too.

sounds like it might be a shady deal, hope it was cheap

Thanks guys!
I did get it cheap and also got tons and tons of parts with it.
What PSI should the compression be on a bike like this?
I will check that for starters and hook the clutch cable up and adjust it as nessary. And see what my own results are. If it's the way he says it is, then I'll tear into it.
Thanks again!

hahaha we rolled a 250r trike this winter.. clutch broke.. we puched him to get him moving than clicked in gear..

as for the power... does it run ok other wise?? you know 125s do move tell they get on the pipe/power band.. my cr125 way like 5500?6k? rpms before it went.. than you were lookin at the sky, the power valve could be shot or gummed up also

i think your clutch plates are sticking you might want to pull them out and separate them and soak in oil as for power i would see if the ring is at the centering pin. also check if the power valves is stuck also clogged exhaust

on a recap i don't thing the ring has anything to do with the power loss if you can start it it has enough power to get it moving. if there is a leak through the ring gap all has would be pushed out before it would compress

actually, it can. The dykes ring (aka gas expansion, used to combat ring flutter) needs the gases from the combustion process to force it down and out into the cylinder, so if its installed upside down, you are going to get some serious blow by and minimal compression which translates into little to no power.

I thought the dyke ring could only be installed one way other wise it bind on the wall, because the piston has a resess for the L lip. Or i'm I wrong on that thought?

compression should be at around, 150 to 200 psi.

Thanks guys!
I tried to check it yesterday but my gauge took a sh1t on me! So I gave up for the day and havent had a chance to look into it more.
I got the damn thing for sale so with any luck it'll be gone before I DO get a chance to look at it again! lol
Thanks for the info guys!
