Dual Sport Got Back To Me.

They can Get me

Plastics (all different prices but under £150 for them all.
Exhaust Is £140 but unsure what one yet.

so if its only going to cost me that for the parts i need plus a top end i will be listing my rm up for sale to get them :D

awesome man thanks!! a guy on ebay has a tank and he also supplied me a company called dual sport over in the uk that might be able to get me parts for it :) im unsure on the basket but i was wondering is it ment to be like that? like looks likes been rubbing againest something and its worn the outside but not sure if its ment to be like that or not lol

Oh yes, I see what you mean. It does look like something came loose at some time and rubbed on the clutch basket. Look for loose pieces but it may have been cleaned up in a previous repair. The Steel clutch basket is aftermarket I believe, and will last forever. It adds a bit of flywheel weight, but I prefer that myself.

Almost anything, body, suspension or engine parts in nearby years should fit with small exceptions, from the 250-300-360-380 bikes, 1990-2003. (the 350-500cc non-powervalve bikes are much different) There were changes along the way. Several small radiator plumbing changes in the 1990s, SEM to Kukusan electrics in 1997, as well as hydraulic clutch from cable, and link rear suspension went to direct acting. 2000 brought the upside-down shocks, the first couple years were not so great. 2003(SX)-2004(EXC) brought the engine case change. 2001 was the move from hemi style combustion chamber to toroidal, and then later they went with even flatter angular chambers. The earlier rear subframes were narrower, prone to twist on impact. About 1997 they widened the rear subframe, and then changed it again in 2004 for the 1 bolt seat and 1 piece plastics. I have seen guys put 2007 plastics on a 1995 bike with very little modification. 125 and 200 frames, plastics and suspensions in the same years are very similar, but the engines and mounts are different.

Hope this helps.

Steve

Thanks Best!! going with a Genuine Ktm Exhaust its working out a little cheaper than a fmf and its not got import tax as its in the uk. but got the plastics sourced dualsport can get all them except a right radiator scoop i have found a site that sells the pair together so il get the pair and just buy the rest from this company. but should be done by a couple of months :) what like is the power in the 250? i haven't yet ridden a bike with powervalve/powerbands i had a rm 125 last year before i purchased the blaster but i didn't ride it as it needed a top end and i ended up swapping it for the blaster i had a few month back. the ktm won't be going anywhere as it will be enough power for me and for where i use it.

Power is ample on the 250. The 1990 has about 90% of the power a 2013 has and can surpass a stock 2013 with some slight porting, machined combustion chamber and careful jetting and pipe selection. Those early engines were way ahead of their time and are still the basis of today's engine. The 300-360-380 are torque monsters, giving up rpm for torque. A 250 generally has as much power but revs more and is more "snappy". The powervalve on the KTM is fully adjustable and can be set so the powerband is very gradual and controlled, or hits like a hammer.

Compared to a 125 the 250 has a lot more low rpm guts, is a far superior hill climbing machine and tends to spin tires on dirt very easily with even small throttle inputs. I like the 125 for woods and trails, but the 250 is king of the sandpits and hill climbs.

dealers don't know jack sh*t about bikes i tell you!! just got a email back from Dual Sport and they said the frame number i supplied them with to confirm year for the parts they said that ktm didn't use the VBK numbers until 1995. so i might actually have a 1996 model afterall. if so il be even happier as the parts are cheaper!!

right the frame is definitely a US Import. but the engine the company can't find anything on it? provided the engine number but they can't find anything to do with it they said the 1990 frames when they were built in the us they were originally built with the 546 Engine. but i am thinking someone has changed it over here as its defo a 2 stroke but what cc i don't know lol

Did 4 hours of woods and trail riding on my KTM 125 with my daughter yesterday.
A bit sore and a few blisters, have I ever missed this! Lots of mud and I had my highway tire and sprocket on, got through anyway.

Your motor is at least a 250 from the early 1990s, your forks post 2000 if they are KTM. This bike will work well when you get it together. Piston diameter will tell you if it is a 250, 300 or 360. Show some more picts! I love these motors.

thanks man :) i will be taking pictures tomorrow of the piston guy gave me as im unsure whether to use it. its not melted or too badly damaged i don't think. also got my other bike up for sale so if it sells il get the exhaust, tank and bearings and il just sell other things and get the plastics :) exhaust im going to get the shiny one as the company can get the normal one or the nickel one but the shiny one is cheaper so i might as well :p

someone is coming to buy the 84 rm 125 tomorrow. so the money from that will get me the exhaust, tank and water pump bearings and il get plastics later this year once i have the cash to get frame powdercoated as its a bit rusty. also need to source caliper rebuild kits for this as i cant find any on ebay? anyone know if i search the caliper if i will get them that way or does it need to be for a ktm?

What brand are the calis?

not sure yet man... not had chance to look yet lol il be heading down to sort my shed tomorrow for the guy coming for rm tomorrow night so il have a look and get pictures of the piston to see whether or not its ok to use :) think it will be as not too badly damaged compared to other pistons anyways. not too bad as best said to use the blaster plug code and iv got 3 brand new plugs here :D

idk if its supposed to be like that..... but the tabs on the clutch plates are still there and not worn off.... so maybe its supposed to be that way, or it could have happened before and they put in new clutch plates.....

hi mate yeah im thinking its a previous problem but they fixed it. luckily only thing that is bad is the water pump bearing as it fell apart after touching it with my finger haha but going to get new ones order in 2 days time along with a genuine ktm pipe and silencer and a petrol tank and il get it fired up once i get the power valve ;)

Frame can be sanded and rattle-can spray painted for now.
Calipers are Brembo if proper KTM. Often cheap to buy on ebay due to their reliability.

Most calipers can be repaired by pumping the piston out,
carefully removing the rubber seals and noting their orientation,
clean the rubber in water or brake fluid only, NO solvents. Let dry.
Clean the caliper carefully, no harsh abrasives on the piston or bore.
Assemble with Brake Fluid.

The master cylinder on the bar often needs a piston kit, especially if the wrong fluid has been used.
Typically Dot 4 will work in most bikes but you better check.

hi mate going to just wait to i get money for powercoating :) not a fan or rattle can haha, won't be ordering no parts tomorrow anyway as guy has let me down on this bike so had to advertise it again. (locally not ebay as sick of timewasters and the fees)

hopefully il get rid of it soon :)
