Hello I'm thinking about buying a blaster so i decided to join this forum so i could ask a few questions don't kill me if i ask sumthing that's already been asked just lemme no there's already a thread for it. 1 what should i look for on buying a used blaster things to watch out for and whatnot, 2 what's maintenance and upkeep for 1 like, and 3 is there a specific year i should get, i no past 03 they had better breaks but thats about it. Ny helpful words of wisdom would b nice thanx.

hey hey, no worries!

  1. Look out for accident damage, bent steering bars, bent a-arms, look to see if the front wheels stand upright identically (camber), look for rust, seat tear, worn paint on the frame from boots, all this points to how hard the machine has worked. Most importantly, the motor, look for signs of oil leakage from behind the engine cases, ask about compression, feel the kick starter, it should be firm and u\you should be able to kick it over easily but with some resistance. Ask about the history, has it been rebored, has it had an engine failure like a broken skirt.
  2. Upkeep is all up to you, some dont bother others are fanatical, obviously a machine is only as good as its maintainer allows it to be! they are simple machines, easy to work on and nothing complicated, parts are pretty cheap too.
  3. All the bikes are the same anything post 2003 will have disks brakes.

I hope this helps! and Welcome!

Thank u very much i appreciate it, Iv had for strokes b4 and everybody says they aren't as hard to maintain, does a two stroke really have 2 b torn apart every so many rides?

I would say unless your racing or absolutely hammering the snot out of it .. with the proper jetting and no air leaks I would say a loooong time I wouldn't think it would need to
be done yearly maybe every 2 or more but sh*t happens, lol just check for air leaks and make sure to
have the proper mix fuel and it should last

Ic well I'll probably b riding it perty hard but i like to think that il b taking good care of it between rides, i appreciate all the info guys

think of t this way. after every race/practice i went to, i cleaned the airfilter, and gas, everything, and when i took my piston out, it was in really good shape. granted, it was the wrong size piston, but it was in really good shape.

Well that's definatly not as bad as i thought it would b, i figured at the very least id clean it out every time i put a new part on or messed with sumthing seeing as there's so much u can do to a blaster, that's half the reason i like them other than the two stroke havin more bang for my buck.

agreed a leakdown tester is a must have it will save you money in the long run. I'd say leakdown every 3 to 4 rides

2 strokes are a LOT of maintance. but are worth it if u dont mind doing it. 4 pokes u can just put away i the garge and not worry about it, but 2 u have to do maintance every once and a while.

Not necessarily! Air filter, chain, and lube system maintenance are critical, no matter what bike you ride. Regular maintenance is required on both 2-stroke and 4 stroke machines; you just do it differently and less frequently on a 2-stroke. 4 strokes need regular oil changes and valve lash adjustments. 2 strokes need an annual leakdown test and gearbox oil changes every few rides.

i ride the piss out of mine and i think im gonna have to do a topend soon but if you do regular maintenance on you shouldent have many problems the only problem i have with mine is when im riding with my friends they cant keep up with it lol

What is a leak tester and how much do they cost, and i don't mind doing the maintenance i enjoy working Witt my hands specialy on a machine of my own.
