I ordered the jet needle for this pwk 35mm carb on this 89 kdx 200 Monday and the guy asked me what size I said stock.well I started cleaning the carb and found it to be a 73 which according to the manual is an optional one not standard.what effects will this have the stock ones a 72 the one that's in it is a 73 should I call and reorder the 73?

It depends what mods are on the bike, if you have an aftermarket air filter or modified intake or exhaust, the main jet will be a couple sizes bigger, if there are no modifications to those parts, it prolly wont hurt it unless it gets cold. When it turns cold out, you may wish to jet it higher....

72, 73, are OEM style numbers, but usually OEM numbers are six digits. Most likely that 73 indicates that it is a larger diameter than the 72. With this in mind, a larger diameter needle will lean out your mid a bit before going to full main jet at WOT. So, the 72 will fatten your mid a bit. I say try it and if it seems boggy in the mid, then order the 73.

I think phragle once said that the worst thing you could do with jetting is to come down from WOT and hit a lean mid-throttle. A sure recipe for disaster. So the prudent thing to do is go with the richer setting (72) and see how it goes.
