I am looking to get an extra set of a arms then cut and extend them. I have everything needed to make them, but just wasnt sure how if anyone has done this before? what should I make them +3?

This link has been posted around here a few times. You might find it interesting if you're going to be fabricating.

The guy in that link did a VERY good job of replacing his stock ball joints, however, he did not extend his a-arms.

Extending the a-arms opens a whole other pile of issues. The choices you have for extending the tubing is to use a smaller (OD smaller than the ID on the current tube) tube to make a "scab". OR you could try finding some metric tubing and do a butt weld but then the strength of the heat affected area becomes a concern (especially for the lower control arm that takes the brunt of the damage)

IIRC, with how it's done plus type of joints it was like 1 5/8 extended. It was more a method of replacing ball joints.

If I were to extend arms I would find tube to go over existing, preferably tight enough that I might have to heat it to go on. Be aware that you will also have to bend the tubes because you have a longer triangle with the same length base.

mmm i dont like the idea of extending stockers. but it can be done, and it can be done well. its up to you to make sure it is.

I also think i would find tubing to fit over the a-arm tubes

Yea. I have everything to do it. I have been welding for 5 years even made my own ladder bars for my 49 plymouth coupe. I have the stuff all drawn up on my CAD program, just didn't know how wide to go since i just ride trails. I even am moving the shock mounts so that I can have a bigger choice of shocks.

ok, sounds like you are a machine at this sort of thing, go for it.

I also Only ride trails and with my setup, im 16mm wider than a stock YFZ450!

it took some getting used to and I clipped a few rocks and trees when i started with it but your eye soon adjusts as to what you can fit between and you will adapt to the new dimensions. do them where you want, dont worry about going too wide unless its stupidly wide. you will adapt.

width trumps an unstable narrow bike anyday
