Hi all first post here and i dont know "richard" about these things

Names J from the PNW.

Got my 11 year old daughter a sweet blaster. 2003 bone stock black one.

so the help i need is.

I bored it to .040 over.
cylinder is now chamferred
ported.
K&N air filter

haven't done the reads yet. might not.
and still a stock pipe

so what size carb jets do i need to start with.

What's an air box lid.

I'm assuming the elevation i ride in is your question, if so i ride about 1500 feet to sea level.

temp? outside temp or bike?

like i said this is all new to me.

if you take the seat off.(very easy) and look where the air filter is the lid thats on top of it is removable(as long as your not using a k&n)
and temps we mean outside temps where you will be ridng

Gotcha. yes that is removed. if you take the seat off you just see the air filter. there no lid you take off.

the air temp were i ride is in the range of 55 to 75 for the most part. it gets up to 85ish from time to time.

K next question. I got it all back together. I did the breakin on the top end as explained in the thread here. On the last break in I notice some white smoke from the tail pipe. What might this be and should I be concerned?

a 2 stroke is gonna smoke some, was it a ridiculas ammount?

Third clip refers to notches on the needle in carb slide, most normal is third or middle posistion. Lower clip raises needle making it richer at1/2-3/4 throttle.

is this it. and it the C clip in the 4th or the 1st notch? and i would prefer to run a little richer as this is my 11 year old daughters bike and she is not yet real experienced at ride.

White smoke CAN indicate a leaking clutch side crank seal. It can also be excess oil burning out of the silencer packing.

You may want to construct or purchase a leak down tester and test the engine. You said break-in, did you have to do a top end? Did the piston come apart?

yes i had to do a top end on it. i was braking in the top in per instruction i read in a thread here.

Did the piston come apart? or just skid to a stop?

That's a picture of A needle but not a blaster needle (they work the same way except a blaster needle has 5 positions) numbered 1-5 from top to bottom.

The first needle clip lowers the needle making the carburetor more lean as you accelerate. Moving the clip down moves the needle UP and makes it progressively more rich. Most carburetors and needles are built so the middle clip position makes them happy BUT not all carburetors are happy on the middle clip position. You need to look at the jetting guides under "the most useful posts" at the top of the page. There are several jetting topics.

Thank you i just lifted a needle.

as for the breakage, no the piston just skidded up the cylinder wall. it did not brake apart.

Well leak check your work and make sure the piston didn't skid because of an air leak (which will cause the new piston to skid if left unchecked)

slickerthanyou makes leak checkers and sells them reasonably cheap or you can make your own from hardware store components.

Thanks for the help. i just watched the video on the leak down test. i will do that ASAP. do you think i may have caused damage to the new piston.

and sorry for my ignorance what is skidding the piston. just so i am clear.

Could it have been the oil i used to lubricate the piston when i reinstalled it. could it have been burning it off?

Informal term for locking up an engine by losing the oil film (due to heat or lean condition) and transferring small amounts of aluminum to the steel cylinder liner.

It usually "scrapes" some of the piston off on the cylinder and the whole assembly locks up.

Expecially noticable during a 4 point seizure in the skid marks on the 4 corners of the cylinder.
