Flex-Hone Cylinder Ball

i wouldn't use one of those to try to bore anything, 100 percent not what they're made for.

they're made to hone a cylinder, not bore it. and they don't do a very good job of doing that within the specs that you need them to be

has any one ever tempt to try boring out thier cylinder?
im thinking about it but would like some feed back and tips if anyone has done it

All they are good for is to deglaze a cylinder to put fresh rings in. They don't really remove any material but seem to work nice for what they are intended. We use them occasionally and haven't had any bad luck.

what do you mean by burrs?

and do you know what proper piston to wall clearance is? do you know how to measure it? do you know to measure the taper of the bore after you're done?

and having a machine shop bore it should only cost 60-70 bucks max.

$200 here man.thats just shop time.my cylinder wall has light scratches from the piston ring pin breaking off.that lil pin sure did a bit of damage

just make sure you measure piston to wall after you're done. but unless its just glazed, its not going to do a very good job

heres what ill do.in a few days or a week ill go and get the motor and pull it appart and take some pics.i already have new gaskets on the way so it wont be a big deal.and ill have all winter to rebuild

We get $57 to bore and hone one, then $10-12 for shop time to chamfer the ports. We charge that because we set it up in the machine and get it to within .001, chamfer then back in the machine to finish to size.

man thats cheap.but if i were to ship the cylinder to you and return shipping it would probably cost extra.i will get the motor here where i live.the blaster is out on my brothers farm because even if i chain the quad to the beams in the cargarage the lil punks will use bolt cutters and steal my blaster(those lil %^*!@)it happen before with a different quad.lol.by spring ill have a freash rebuilt motor to put back in my blaster :-)

i was fortunate enuf to get to bore a cylinder at ken oconnor racing, and it involves way more than i ever thought, and imo cannot be done correctly "at home" with a flex hone, and you may think your saving money, but will realize why shops are in business when you "waste" another piston with a "home" bore job and cost yourself even more money in the end

Awk the Machinist! He did a great job on my wifes cylinder and it's still running great @ 160 compression. Awk is the best deal if you're price shopping. He did it for free. I charge $45 + $15 shipping and can turn it over in a couple of days.

yeah i did it for free, i also found the base gasket air leak in jess's motor, and fried a hole in the piston.....all for free, baaahahahaaaa

dont do it man!! you could cause some major imperfections in there and end up with a nice piston skirt dropped in your cases due to excessive piston to wall clearance. :o :o :o :o

true true true.guess ill be forgetting about this idea.might be cheap in the thought but might end up costing alot more then to get a pro to do it.well thanks for the input guys
