Engine not running right???

here is how to remove the nozzle and then clean the 8 small holes in it
this nozzle supplys mid and high revs on your moter

here is how you drive it out i used a drill bit to tap it out with

here it is half way out

here is the main jet screwed into the main nozzle this nozzle has 8 tiny holes in it it supplys mid and high cercuit in the carb

i hope i did this picture thing right

the needle jet is hooked to the throttle slide

the needle jet slides inside the main nozzle and the main jet screws into the main nozzle.

ive never seen a setup like that.. is that a stock carb? every pilot jet ive dealt with unscrews you dont have to beat it out, seems f'ed up lol :o

that's not a pilot noober

i do believe that's called a needle jet, the part coming down out of the slide is just called a needle. that's what most of the things that i'm seeing say it is anyway.

so what kind of a carb is that? ive never ran across anything like that before :-/

this is a stock carb off my 1998 yamaha blaster

i guess i could be wrong on what im calling it,i have always called it the main jet nozzle.

basically the main jet, needle jet,and nozzle all work together and it supplys the mid and high range in your stock carb.

Ok thanks for the pics those will come in handy. I will be back home on Sunday so I will do that then. And my carb looks just like too, and I'm pretty sure it is stock.

Ok I cleaned it all out and almost every one of the little holes, by the way there were 10, and everything having to do with that jet was clogged and filled with this wet bread looking stuff. I didn't have time to ride it yet to see if that fixed it, but I will tommorow.

it will run perfect im sure that this fixed your problem, make sure you respray all the holes out in the carb while you have the carb toredown all the way now.
let me know how well it runs

It made it worse!!!!!!! I took it for a ride and it had NO power at all!! I compression tested it even though it has a new top end and the compression was fine. What is going on with this thing?!?!

that should have fixed your problem!
did you lineup the pin in the carb with the slot on the nozzle and tap it in all the way in till it seated?
did you spray out all the passages while you had the nozzle out?
here is how i clean a carburator i have never had a problem after doing it this way-i tear the whole carb down nozzle and everything.
then i put the little straw thingy on a can of breakleen and spray every little whole i find and when i spray a hole i make sure i see the cleaner shooting out the other side of the hole.
i use breakleen because it does not leave a resedue when it evaporates
then i hit all the holes with my aircompresor this will blow the stuborn stuff out.
have you taken the fuel selecter apart and cleaned it (the selecter for reserve and on and off) at the gas tank.i have seen this plugup with crap and not allow fuel to flow to the carb.

you have a carb problem or fuel problem let me know what you findout
finding that milky bread looking stuff in the nozzle and cleaning it out it should have ran better.

their is also a hole in the bowl that a tube gos in make sure this hole is cleanedout, inside the bowl you will see two holes side by side the tube from the carb gos in one but both of these holes has a little hole inside there connecting them.

Ya I cleaned everything out. And I did take the fuel valve apart last night and it was dirty, but I cleaned that. I cleaned out the gas tank to and let that dry over night. I'm also gunna remix the fuel today and if that isn't the problem then I don't know what to do next.

It got it's power back when I re mixed the fuel, but it still sucks up hills. Does anyone else have trouble up long hills?

you say you are having trouble up long hills i cant tell if you still have a problem or not.
i tryed to climb a hill last sunday with mine, its all stock and my hill was very step my nephew said i was nuts before i tryed.long story short i made it about 3/4 of the way but it bogged down in 2nd gear and i rolled all the way down the hill on my ass.mine bogged down in second so next time im going to leave it in 1st gear and try it.the thing with blasters is you have got to keep them in the powerband if your going to climb steep hills.
when trail rideing i leave it in 1st gear most of the time and just put sometimes second but you have to keep it revedup in the powerband.
hows the mid and top end working on yours now,if you speed shift it in the powerband does it screem?

if they are not reved and in the powerband they are a little doggie on power.
these things are made to rev.

Well yesterday I couldn't ride it up to full temp so because it was pouring but hopefully today I can

huh no sh*t, ya learn something new everday... :) thanks brando

Huh. On Keihins that part screws out from the bottom. Much easier to get to for cleaning. BTW, the manual calls that a "main nozzle" while Keihin calls it a "needle jet holder". Personally I would have called it an emulsion tube cuz it mixes.

+rep to Killer for showing us something new on stupid, I mean stock, carbs!
