Ok first question how much does this effect the ride of the bike I jetted at the elevation of Philadelphia????I'm on my way to west virginia and just started to think about it would I have to go up or down in jetting size I'f the elevation is higher????And does anyone know a link to find what the elevation is for hatfeid mcCoy west virginia?????

i would think your jetting should be fine... if elevation increases you need to lean out your jetting because the air is thinner. so if anything itll just get a little rich. id take a couple smaller jets with you and if it feels boggy do a quick plug chop and adjust while ur there. more than likely you wont have to though

everything that you'll ever need to know regarding elevation is listed here....thx to blaner

It will answer all questions regarding elevation.............................

glad someone is finding it useful! trick is to find the elevation of the area you want to ride in, just google, (place name) elevation and then reference the elevation to the graph in my thread and you can work it out from there

i thought it was the opposite, the thinner air at higher elevations will allow more of it into the mix, needing richer jetting at higher elevations ?????

someone confirm which is correct, jet higher for elevation, or lower ????

incorrect Awk, higher alt. = thinner air BECAUSE air pressure is less, therefore less O2 is available, meaning your air/fuel mix will become DOMINATED with with more fuel than O2, this makes it rich! so at elevation, you need to use a smaller jet, follow the link to my thread to work out how much of a change you need!

you are thinking along the lines of air VISCOSITY, which i also deal with in there, i know its a long read, but if you want to understand it, it is science so it its not a 3yr old story book and needs a bit of concentration.

this discussion should be under the sticky for others to see in a whiles time tho, cause it is a common misconception

thanx blaner, reps given, i was always worried about running lean during my 1200+ elevation changes here on the mountain

Yeah, I usually jet where I live, cause pretty much everywhere I go to ride is higher in elevation. If I go lower, I have my jet kit on me and I can bump it up a jet size to be safe.

Good post tho man.

in arizona in one day i can start out at sea level and end up at 8000ft in a one day trail ride, when im on especially a two-stroke ive been know to pull to the side of the trail to go a size larger or smaller when the elevation calls for it.
