Do you ride with a backpack or emergency kit?

After reading awk08's thread HERE about his riding injury and being in a remote location, it inspired me to get started on an idea I adopted from my days hiking.

I was curious if anyone uses a backpack when they're out for long on trails?
The inner survivalist in me tells me I should have a minimum kit with me at all times when out on the trail in case something happens. So I was wondering if any of you keep a backpack full of goodies with you when you ride?

I'm throwing together a small pack for trail riding. In it I plan to have:
  • small first aid kit - a bumps and bruises kit. including ointments, bandaids, splint, etc..
  • 3 liter hydration pack (built into my CamelBak pack)
  • 2x cliffs bar - similar to a power bar
  • 2pr spare socks - cuz wet feet suck when you're out for long hours
  • fire building equip - bic lighter, waterproof matches, and some tinder
  • 50ft para cord - too many uses to list
  • 10'x10' tyvek tarp for shelter if the weather gets too bad to ride or if we decide to camp somewhere

I'm sure when it's all said and done I'll have a better list for you all, but this was just off the top of my head and I'll get more detailed as I go. The idea is to have a snug fitting pack that's light weight enough to not hinder or fatigue me when on long outings, but having enough emergency equipment to survive if I had to until help can arrive.

yea i ride with a back pack with tools, plugs, tape, zippy ties a tow rope and some other stuff.. and i carry my cell every time i ride.. i cant see carrying any thing more cause my trails are small and i ride with a bunch of ppl ..

i have never been at any kind of trip with my atv, dont got a place to go, anyway i always take a backpack with me when im going to ride in a track, but that doesnt matter, and a toolbox

if i were to take a pack i would take-
fluids(water)
gernola bars(something small/nutrisious)
knife
couple must have tools(wrenches)
rope
small first aid kit
a rain jacket

all this stuff would be light to take

when i go out riding i do,but if i just go to the trails out behind my house i dont, cuz well its behind my house, our property and if something happens i could just scream and my dad will hear me, but when we go out,to like ride the roads and other trails with friends we do bring a backpack, with tools, plugs and mechanic stuff,we dont bring any medical stuff cuz we always ride in groups and have cellphone.

I usually never go riding alone... Thats a really good thing to practice. Plus when I ride I always bring my cellphone, as well as the people I ride with.

i carry 6 things with helmet, cell, the socket for the plug, and the vise grip, and zip ties, and a pop.. ride with a bunch of people and the areas i ride the farthest i come from someones house is about 5 miles

If I dont have one someone in my group does.

Water
Basic first aid stuff
GPS
Tow rope
Tire pump
Basic screw drivers and wrenches
Spare spark plugs
2-1 gallon gas cans 1 mixed 1 regular
Flashlight
Tire plug kit

Couple other things, thats just off the top of my head.

I do something alittle different, I go to the most extreme parts of the world and ride for 7 days straight, with no food, no water and no shelter.....Alone with no camera crew, just me and my blaster.

thats a masive list. would be really heavy. we usually take a small bag with some food and water, allenkey set and some important size sockets with a driver(10,12,14,17). and riding with dirtbikers, the quad gets to carry the bag lol...

i never go riding without my bag, even if i go out with a bunch of people. under my seat, i keep extra plugs, philips and flat screwdrivers, adjustable wrench, gloves, tire plug, needlenose and electrical tape. i always wrap my tow strap/rope around my front or rear bumper. and i keep a small first aid kit, powerbars, water, and my cell phone(in a ziploc bag) all in a little light bag that fits tight so its not uncomfortable and flopping around. you never know, ANYTHING can happen.

Thanks guys for all the replies. I've got a few more things to add tat you all reminded me of.

I've got to put a bit more thought into stuff and see where I end up.

well my trip quad I use a z250 which has a under seat compartment and theres lots of room I put 1 water bottle, matches, nifvie, granola bars,a basic tool kit with a little rope, screw drivers, spark plug thing, and a little 5 by 5 tarp

I never carry anything with me... because im ether riding in one of my neighbors property, or im at the track...
