After reading awk08's thread HERE about his riding injury and being in a remote location, it inspired me to get started on an idea I adopted from my days hiking.
I was curious if anyone uses a backpack when they're out for long on trails?
The inner survivalist in me tells me I should have a minimum kit with me at all times when out on the trail in case something happens. So I was wondering if any of you keep a backpack full of goodies with you when you ride?
I'm throwing together a small pack for trail riding. In it I plan to have:
I'm sure when it's all said and done I'll have a better list for you all, but this was just off the top of my head and I'll get more detailed as I go. The idea is to have a snug fitting pack that's light weight enough to not hinder or fatigue me when on long outings, but having enough emergency equipment to survive if I had to until help can arrive.

I'm throwing together a small pack for trail riding. In it I plan to have:
- small first aid kit - a bumps and bruises kit. including ointments, bandaids, splint, etc..
- 3 liter hydration pack (built into my CamelBak pack)
- 2x cliffs bar - similar to a power bar
- 2pr spare socks - cuz wet feet suck when you're out for long hours
- fire building equip - bic lighter, waterproof matches, and some tinder
- 50ft para cord - too many uses to list
- 10'x10' tyvek tarp for shelter if the weather gets too bad to ride or if we decide to camp somewhere
