hey guys new to this site. looking for direction on a carb problem. my 13 year old son just picked up his firs quad a 03 blaster. didnt run good so i took it in and had the carb cleaned and checked out (135$). he has rode it for about a week but it still doesnt idle good, takes a long time to rev down, and seem to have no power band -sometimes kinda a dog - the tors wires i removed from the carb and the throttle. any other ideas.

with the hanging revs it could be a air leak wich is bad news, have you checked the reeds yet? i would check them and replace/reinstall using new gaskets. stay away from teh stealership man, get your advise here, its better and free I:I

ya got robbed on that one. can i just take the carb off and look in to check the reeds or do i have to take the rubber part off the motor?

looked at the link and it looks like i need to do some reading before i ask any more questions. thanks

Pull the rubber boot off, take the reed cage out and inspect for cracks and missing material on the reeds. Also make sure they are closed all the way. Get (or make) a new gasket. The reeds / intake are known to leak even with new gaskets. Make sure the mating surfaces are clean and free of old gasket material.

a little light coating of RTV on those gaskets is a good idea.

a good idea here is to do a leakdown test, there's a great thread on how to build and use one on here by phragle. on top of where these guys said to look, it could also be a leaking stator side crank seal

I was looking for that thread the other day! Personally, I don't like RTV for anything. My fav is Permatex Aviatiom Form-a-Gasket. Black monkey-snot in a jar with a brush. Nice brushed on gaskets and utterly gasoline resistant.
