Willard,OH
I purchased a 96 blaster for a project, This is my 2nd quad but first blaster!, First quad was an 86 LT250R, Back to the point.. Its a 1996 Yamaha Blaster with a fresh rebuilt motor, compression test brought back 134-135, Its not getting spark though. The guy told me it was the stator/magneto so we messed around with it and noticed about an 8th inch of the crank bolt was stripped out, and I can not find a metric LH thread nut for it in my town!!, Whenever you kick the quad the head light will flicker so it has to be getting 12v.. So I'm not really 100% sure on where to begin on this thing, I do have an owners manual with it but it doesn't really give reasoning to no spark!, I tried swapping the coil with a coil from another 1995 Yamaha 200cc motor but it had no effect either!, I can buy the whole wiring harness with everything intact for 25$ if that would help.. I'm really hoping to get this running sometime before winter! I will have pictures up here shortly! Just a stock Dark blue/yellow blaster lol

the stator has 2 coils, one for the lighting, and then one for the spark.

couple tests, you need to get a test light, connect the wire end to ground, and then put the lead on the orange wire that goes to the coil, kick it over and see if you get light or not, if not....

get a digital multimeter, you have to hook it up to the wires for the source coil coming out of the stator, the manual should have values for what the reading should be, if its out of spec, replace it

Welcome, ^^^ as you can see there are great people & information here, your Blasty should be running in no time! I:I

Unplug the t.o.s box under the nose cover, to your right as you stand in front, if its bad, it will cut your spark, had the same problem with mine and my neighbors

This is too Funny, i saw this blaster on craigslist the other day, just never got a chance to get it arount to see it. Small world, cuz im originaly from willard but live in brunswick, my rents own the woods by the airport. Im looking for a blaster myself, something els to have fun on back at the homestead. whats your name, i prolly know you.

good luck with that thing, looked like a good deal, there cant be too much to the electrical system to these things, there is no start, starter solinoid, battery, gps, headrest lcd dvd players, sync, onstar or any of the fancy stuff like that.

Yeah, I seen it on there and gave 250$ for it. My names Jonathan Hamilton. Who are you?.. Any good riding out there? I just ride in cenerton on the rail road tracks, Buncha great trails back there.
