Blaster won't start with TORs disconnected, what did I miss?

Older blaster runs with the TORs cable from the throttle body connected. Once I clipped it at the throttle body and and unplugged the connector under the front plastic(that's as far of a removal as I was planning right now), it wouldn't start....stripped the wires and halfass reconnected the TOR and it started first kick. While it was running, I disconnected the TOR cables from the throttle body and it died.

What am I missing here?

EDIT: maybe it's a newer TOR? I spliced the 2 cables together after cutting them from the throttle body and it started fine.

So if it's clipped at the throttle body housing and then spliced together before the TOR head unit, is it still disabled?

No, I simply cut the cable from the throttle body...I got it to start by touching those two wires together.

All I intended was to cut it at the throttle and disconnect the wire at the brain where the connector/plug is and then just tape off the plug, but it won't start if I do that. So I plugged the cable back in and spliced them together instead of running it back to the throttle switch.

Follow me?

So would that make it bypassed? Or do I need to remove more now?

Jus wondering seen the post i been wondering around this forum tryign to learn diffrent things so i know how to make my blaster run better an so i can maintain an improve it... what are TORS an is it better for them to be un plugged or plugged in?

Did you unhook the thumb throttle wires to?

Yes, that's all I did...and then to start it, I connected those 2 wires to each other...so this would=a bypassed TOR, correct?

mjgnslngr - That's what I was trying to avoid...not a project for today at least. I just wanted it bypassed at minimum.

I thought on older blasters you could literally just clip the cable from the thumb throttle and newer ones needed the wires jumped...that's why I assume I have a newer TOR on an older blaster(it is a bit of a frankenbike).

GH blaster - the TOR=Throttle Over Ride, it's not needed and causes issues sometimes...search and you'll learn all about it.

Unplug throttle cable, tors silver box cable, and the brain black box under the hood 88-02 have two black boxes. I believe the one on the right.

Right on! It's the upper black box of the 2 on the left. It's not a huge job. 15 min.
Woops, sorry slicker, if you're standing in front of it, it IS on the right. If you're sitting on it, it's on the left.

I have no idea what year...it is deff. older and pieced together...

Maybe I need to unplug the brain as all I did was disconnect the switch in the throttle housing...

Either way, after disconnecting the switch in the throttle and jumping the 2 cables together, is the TOR then bypassed/disabled? I just don't feel like undoing the wire harness' tape right now and then re-taping it all...

I guess tonight/tomorrow I'll try disconnecting the brain and see if she starts then.

Like I said, she starts as long as the TOR is set up OR if the two cables to the throttle switch are jumped together.

Unplug throttle cable, tors silver box cable on carb, and the brain black box under the hood.

If it only has one little black box, 03 + splice the throttle cable wires AND the carb TORS sliver box wires on the carb wires.

Well, from what i thought I knew, when staring at it from the front there are 2 black boxes on the right. The top black box ought to be the TOR brain. I removed that a minute ago and she started just fine. I then removed the 2 wires I had jumped from the throttle, no issue and started fine again.

Is there any downfall to not cutting the carb TOR wire? Like I said, I'm to lazy to strip all the wires out now....and I'm lacking enough electrical tape.

This is deff. a pre '02 model, FYI.

And yes, removing the brain was less than a 5min. job....removing all the corresponding wires, now that's a 2 beer job for another day.

Thanks guys.
