if the timing is offset enough it will screw the plug firing sequence up and cause it to pump the crank out of phase and backwards.when this happens jsut assume the flywheel key is shot and the flywheel is spinning on the crank or stator plate came completely loose

The bad thing about this is, i even broke the gear off from the main drive gear (kickstart gear), and it all started with one loose screw on one of the magnets. ( + - $375 later)

yeah, my skidoo summit 500 has a reverse button, you hold it til the motor almost stalls then tap ita gain and it pushes the crank the other way and retards the timing enough to do no damage
